About 110 Rittman youths in two Scout groups benefit from a community drive starting March 4. An organizing meeting at City Hall set 26 areas for solicitations led by P. W. Williams. Camp Manatec and Camp Ledgewood highlighted funding needs with no local salaries involved.
Former S/Segt. Willard H. Brenneman, son of W. M. Brenneman of Wooster, will be added to the staff of The Rittman Savings Bank on March 1. Nina Lehman, formerly an employee and student at Bowling Green University, will return to her previous position the same day. The bank will observe February 22 as a legal holiday. Brenneman, married, lived in Wooster during Army service of nearly 40 years, including 26 months in the Euro theatre. previously employed by Continental Baking Co. at Akron.
Mr and Mrs I B Winter of Sterling Avenue celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on January 29 at the home of their daughter and son in law Mr and Mrs E J Moore in Lake Wales Florida. They were born in Wayne County and married in 1896. They have lived in Wayne County most of their lives and are enjoying their 13th winter in Florida.
Mayor Mel Ritter launched a country run with Fred Waugh in the first week of his administration, challenging LaGuardia of New York in a quest related to fire engine chasing.
Ralph Overholt sought care in Akron after sudden eye pain blamed on his glasses. Harry Frey of Worcester, an Izaak Walton Leaguer, arrived at the filling station just before Overholt left for Akron to retrieve glasses without a chip at the bifocal line causing vision trouble.

Discharged Wesley W. First of Rittman from the Toledo Naval Separation Center on Wednesday. Jack N. Mills of Rittman also discharged from the same center on Wednesday. Roger C. McGee, son of Rev and Mrs C J McGee formerly of Rittman, discharged from Indiantown Gap February 18 after 15 months overseas and returning to Otterbein College.
The Willing Worker class hosted the Busy Bible class of U B church on February 15 at the church parlors. Activities included hymns, scripture by Ethel Fredrick, poems by Nellie Welling and Mrs Lee, a duet, and a playlet titled Safety First. Seventeen members and guests enjoyed games and refreshments.
Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Tiffin of Lorain and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kallina with children of Long Island New York visited in the E. G. Yochheim house on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. William Yochheim and children of Ashland and Mr. and Mrs. Don Yochheim of Ashland also stopped by for the visit.
A daughter was born February 13 to Mr and Mrs Harvey Harizler of Rittman at Beeson Hospital Wooster. A son was born Friday to Mr and Mrs Myron Kuhlman on Fourth Street at Wadsworth Hospital. A son was born Saturday to Mr and Mrs Farren, formerly Neva Maurer, at Wadsworth Hospital.
Sunday midnight blaze consumed shingles of the unoccupied Balloon Barber Shop on S Main st near the Erie railroad. Community braces for Washington's birthday and school schedule changes. Ernest Wald buys former Candy Kitchen and local businesses expand, filling town store space.
The Women of the Moose held their February 13 chapter night with Anna Tompkins in charge and 31 members present. Five new members joined the circle. one member transferred to Rittman from Orrville. Julia Keating won the mystery package. Doris Woyat and Helen Grant pledged to sew 150 pads for Wadsworth hospitals. Guests included Mrs. Alpheus Goffinet, Mrs. C Gordon, and Mrs. Chas Miller of Barberton Lodge.
Mr and Mrs Guy Benchoff of Easton announce the weddings of their daughters Jay and Virginia to Donald G Neugebauer of Long Beach California and Merle R Frase of Seville. There will be an open church at Easton Union Church Sunday February 28 at 2 oclock Rev Engler will perform the ceremony. Don was discharged from the Army and Merle from the Navy.
Ray S. Derhammer, Dudley Maxon and Msgr. Joseph S. O Hette will form a three person panel to arbitrate a dispute at Ohio Boxboard Co beginning Friday morning. Local 150 members met Feb 19 to discuss the discharge of a single employee and then returned to work pending arbitration under the labor agreement.
Board President Jack Williams said remodeling will start Friday morning in the First Street school gymnasium. Architect drawings will be checked this afternoon and workers begin in the basement to create one to two new classrooms. The aim is to return seventh and eighth grades to full-day classes as soon as possible. A school survey is slated for next week.
