Services were held Monday for George R Sprowl 70 of 41 East Ohio who died Friday morning after a heart attack near his home. He was born in Jacobsburg Belmont County and lived in Rittman 27 years. He worked 20 years at Packaging Corporation of America retiring in 1963. An Army WWI veteran and member of Zion Church of Christ he is survived by his wife Hilda four sons and eight grandchildren. Burial was in Rittman Cemetery with Rev George Lemasters officiating.

About 24 Rittman and Wadsworth men toured the $3.5 million hospital under construction at Leatherman and Grace Roads west of Wadsworth. Architect Dan Carmichael praised the setting and noted 100 rooms across floors two three and four with an obstetrical unit and a future-ready design for growth.

Vocational School Open House Planned in Smithville
Wayne County Joint Vocational School near completion in Smithville may open to the public in late September. JVS Director Robert Zimpfer says finish is slated for July 1 and the new hexagonal building will start with about 450 students, expanding to 900 in the next year.

Fire Destroys Home on County Line Rd
A Valentine’s Day blaze destroyed Homer Wood’s four room frame dwelling on County Line Road. Rittman volunteers aided Doylestown and Chippewa Township units after a 11:05 am call from Roger Talbert. Talbert reported an oil leak by a heating stove caused an explosion forcing his escape with minor burns and uninsurable losses.

Humorist Erickson to Speak at Teen Rally at Rittman High
Erickson, a commercial artist and pop music observer, will address about 500 area teens at Rittman High School at 7 p.m. Saturday. The Akron-Canton area Teen for Christ invites the public to hear his talk on pop music trends using twin stereo amps and cartoon visuals. He has visited hippie communities in California and worked as art director in Europe and Chicago.

Adult Program To Begin This Fall At WCJVS
Wayne County Joint Vocational School opens this September with Rittman expected to place 22 of 24 programs. Fifty three Rittman High School students applied, with decisions due around April 15. Guidance officials remain hopeful most applicants will be accepted as screenings continue for juniors and sophomores from Rittman seeking entrance.

Mrs Eliza J Chapman age 73 of Doylestown will be laid to rest today at 1 pm at Monbarren Funeral Home. She died Sunday at Barberton Citizens Hospital after a long illness and had lived in the area for 30 years. She was a member of Doylestown Methodist Church Gold Star Mothers and American Legion Auxiliary 407. She and husband William observed their 50th wedding anniversary in 1966. Surviving are sons Clifford Lincoln Nebraska Robert Akron Donald Seven Hills Richard Ravenna Kenneth Barberton and daughters Alberta Hinkle Newton Falls Lyndall Rea Manchester Thelma Kernan Akron plus 32 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Two Rittman men released on bond after Wadsworth assault
Phillip D. Moore and Paul Elwood Banks were arrested after a 25 year old Barberton woman said two intoxicated men assaulted her at Sparkle Laundromat in Wadsworth. They fled in a car reaching speeds up to 100 mph, collided near Route 70, and were jailed awaiting grand jury. Bond set at 2000 for Banks and 1000 for Moore. The charge is assault with intent to commit rape.
