Rittman approves steel pool contract for 1951 project

City council awarded Koven Steel Swimming Pools Inc. a 53 800 dollar contract to build a 40 by 100 foot steel pool in the 32 acre recreation area within 102 days of notification. Total costs include 5 200 for sewer and water mains and about 8 000 for a bathhouse.

High School Pep Meeting Highlights Wadsworth Game

Schceile students performed a pep skit Friday February 13 with a Wadsworth game focus. Supt Hauenstein acted as a recovering gentleman while Mrs Overton Miss Mac Morris and others joined the skit and the band concert tickets were sold at 25 and 35 cents for students.

Funeral services held for Dr C R Barnard 69 of Wadsworth

Funeral services for Dr C R Barnard 69 of Wadsworth were held Monday after a Thursday death. He ran an optometric practice in Rittman for years and owned jewelry stores in Rittman Wadsworth and Barberton with E G Hamilton. He previously saw patients weekly by appointment at the Sigler Hotel. His son Dr Amos Barnard an optometrist works with Dr E R Alexander.

Duets and Solos Shine in SOVErEL Music Club Night

The Mrs Robert Hardesty music club met Friday evening at SOVErEL with solos and duets led by Mrs Hardesty. Performances ranged from Ann Robinson's The Bee and Oh Susanna to numerous duets such as Home on the Range and The Dancing Starlet, with refreshments served.

Maine farmer and son win county corn growing contest

D fi L Maine Sterling Farmer and Son ee Char aff lakes good farming in their county. They produced 143 bushels of corn per acre to win the National Selected Fine Acre Corn Growing Contest. Delbert Moine and son operate a 160 acre farm. The elder Moine, 66, has farmed since he could walk and notes conditions were favorable due to light rainfall and moisture retention. They credit ground and moisture, with 3-2-12 fertilizer at planting and no side dressing. The contest drew over 9000 farmers nationwide with entrants from Wayne County including Elmer Rasserman and Wm Riggenbach.

Local Bloodmobile Receives High County Ranking

Wayne County Red Cross honors three north townships Milton Chippewa and Canaan for leading blood donations during four 1952 visits in Rittman and surrounding areas. County average 138 pints with Rittman trio at 146. state ranking noted. Campaign notes next visits March 26 and April 14 with reminders to book early.

Bowling Green debate team dominates Buckeye tournament

Earnest Weckesser and another Bowling Green State University debater led a duo to win all four rounds at the Buckeye debate tournament in Kent on March 9. The BG squads posted six victories and two defeats overall in the event. Public notices report Rotary club historians elected to document the sesquicentennial celebration.

Rittman Historical Society to Hear Early Milton History

The Rittman Historical Society schedules its February meeting at city hall on Tuesday February 24 at 7 30 p m. President E E McConnell will discuss the township history based on research from 1868 to 1900 with Wayne County history by Douglas noting 1818 to 1868. The society, organized in May last year, aims to expand local records as Wooster considers a county society.

Cancer Crusade Reaches Rittman Area With Literature Drive

The Cancer Crusade in Rittman and nearby towns is underway with canvassers distributing literature and collecting donations. About 30,000 pieces of literature are being distributed countywide to educate and raise funds for the cause.

Doylestown Soldier Returning To States

Pfc. James W. Hanawalt son of Mr and Mrs Ross H Hanawalt of Doylestown returns to the United States under the Army rotation program after 16 months in the Far East. A Chippewa high school graduate he joined the army in March 1951 and served in Korea and Japan earning the Combat Infantryman badge Korean Service Ribbon UN Service Ribbon and Army of Occupation Medal.
