Promoter Hittman-Tas Drills Gas Well at JW Roth Farm

C A Rinehart known as Ring obtained a lease on the JW Roth farm in Section 24 Cannan township Wayne County. Drilling began Jan 2 and gas was struck Feb 23 at 2980 feet in the Newburg sand. The well reportedly yields around three million cubic feet daily and local investors show strong support. Riney plans a second well on the same lease in due time.

Brennemans Attend Klopfenstein Golden Wedding

M Brenneman and his mother Mrs Elizabeth Brenneman attended the Klopfenstein golden wedding at the Klopfenstein home near Smithville. Fifty five guests joined the couple for the anniversary. Fifty years earlier thirty guests attended their wedding, only five living now.

CE Rally Here Sunday Draws Four Teams

Seventeen Christian Endeavor rallies under four teams will be held. Wayne County hosts next Sunday with the second team led by WW Siwan of Wowuster College as captain and H A Kishra of Akron as principal speaker in Rittman at 2 PM. McSloan leads a team as part of the county effort to make the day notable for county Endeavors.

Brother and Sister Enjoy the South in Winter Trip

Mr John Fisher and Mrs AL E Lance departed for Florida to spend the winter amid the sunny south. A letter dated Feb 12 from Mr Meher confirms Florida fruits and vegetables are thriving. Fisher notes real estate in St Petersburg with 60,000 population and lots selling for 500 to 1,000 dollars. the couple reports asthma relief for Mrs Lance and plan to return soon.

Former Boxboard Superintendent Dead

William O'Brien former superintendent of The Ohio Taxboard Co. died Friday night at St. Marys hospital in Kansas City Mo Funeral services were held Monday morning February 8 at the Parochial residence in Lawrence Rev H Fitzgerald officiated He was born October 19 1864 in Lebanon Ohio and moved to Lawrence about fourteen years ago to head a local paper mill He married Alice McCarthy May 9 1878 and left four sons and four daughters survivors include his wife and four children The remains were sent to Middletown Ohio for burial in Calvary cemetery.

Raymond Ritter Granted Divorce in Common Pleas Court

Judge Starn granted a divorce to Raymond Ritter from Odeasa Ritter for gross neglect of duty. Ritter receives custody of the child and the defendant loses contingent donor rights in Ritter’s property. She is no longer a resident of Rittman and has recently lived in Akron where she was employed.

Elvis Ruth Conrad, daughter of Mr and Mrs E Conrad of Georgetown Tea, married Orrle iease of Wellersville last Friday evening at the parsonage in Orrville. Rev A L Scherry officiated at seven. The bride formerly worked in a local factory and the groom has many friends who wish the couple happiness.

Rittman Grange holds Valentine themed meeting

Rittman Grange met Friday evening February 13 with good attendance and lively discussions. The lecture hour featured St Valentine puzzles games and contests. The next meeting on February 27 will feature Chippewa Grange with a full program and all members urged to attend.

Local High School Teams Split Pair With Doylestown

Friday night hoops saw Rittman girls fall 42 21 after a tight first quarter while Doylestown girls pulled away in the second, and the Rittman boys win 42 21 as substitutions trimmed the scoring. Starters Dan Nemiller and Parker led Doylestown with 10 and 8 points. Brodbeck 22 and Harter 10 led Rittman. Next action heads to Sterling Friday with girls at 42 11 and boys 18 10 results.
