William Maus to head Wayne Easter Seal drive in 1960
William Maus of Rittman will lead the 1960 Easter Seal campaign in Wayne County with volunteers starting March 17 through April 17 to raise $12,000 for crippled children. He serves on the Rittman School Board and has led local Crippled Children efforts. Hedda Hopper is national chair.

Chippewa Creek Dam Plan Receives Government Approval
Fred Neuenschwander announces federal backing for nine dams in the Chippewa Creek watershed to improve flood control and recreation. First three dams could start next year at River Styx Village and north of Wadsworth with Tomah Run northwest of Rittman slated for a 10 acre permanent pool and up to 44 acres of flood water. The River Styx site would create a 290 acre lake, Wadsworth dam mostly dry, and all nine dams may take five years to finish. Government funding totals 1,643,849 with 625,642 more sought from other sources via local assessments possible. The association seeks Muskingum Conservancy District sub-district status. decision by regional judges pending.

Former Rittman hoop star hurt in LeRoy truck crash
Huffman 311 Huffman, ex Rittman basketball player who moved to LeRoy, was injured in a Class A truck crash on Route 224 near LeRoy. He suffered lip and leg cuts, a sprained wrist and bruises. Three others were hurt, one listed in poor condition. A car driven by Jerome Riske pulled out in front of the truck. The truck driver Gerret Heykopp was listed in poor condition.

Funeral services were held for William Carl Johnson 72 a retired B and O Railroad employee of Sterling. He died at his home Sunday morning.
