Rittman Indians won 27-24 in a prelim against their rival, with Hudson scoring 13 after a slow first half. Kenny Seebauer led foraville with 15 points, while Si of Rittman sank 4 of 10 free throws as the team hit 4 of 15 from the line. Rittman closes the season with two road games at Wooster and Medina and a home date with Coventry.
In a letter to the editor MnsErjack of Local No. 12081 United Mine Workers argues against changing from War Time. He cites factory routines and city workers in Rittman opposing a one hour clock rollback and urges the village council to keep current War Time. Louise Yochheim, society editor, is confined with a severe cold.
Miss Miriam E. Clippinger daughter of Mr and Mrs G H Clippinger of S Main St was inducted into the Freshman honor society Scholaris at Ohio State University on Feb 9 by invitation. Only 74 of nearly 2000 freshmen earned the honor, marking a high scholastic achievement.
Wayne County Selective Service Board No. 2 reports a February call of 190 with 167 drafted for armed service and CO duties, plus two transfers. It lists 70 men reported for Feb 23 at Akron and 70 for Feb 25, naming local draftees from Rittman, Doylestown, Sterling, Marshallville, and Kent.
Grocers complain that coupons for sugar and coffee arrive torn dirty and unsatisfactory. Banks in many cities handle these coupons as money making pass through and delivery to wholesalers difficult. Keep coupon books clean safe and in good condition.
W A Stalwill of the Rittman district ration board warns motorists to file renewal applications for B C or D gasoline rations immediately or risk having no gasoline when their current book expires. Renewal forms are available at local filling stations B and W Oil Co and H L Strickland Garage as well as ration board offices. The OPA has a simplified renewal process allowing forms by mail with the tire inspection sheet, but boards fear delays due to low return rate and registration pressure for War Ration Book 2.
Miss Bertha Park of Cleveland, secretary of the Women's Christian Board of Missions of Ohio Churches of Christ, will speak Sunday at the Rittman Church of Christ. She recently returned from China and will discuss the world’s Christian fellowship in her subject The Unbroken Fellowship of Christians Around the World. She will attend both Sunday School and the preaching service.
Births listed include a son to Mr and Mrs Arthur Gasser of Rittman Road on February 12 a son to Mr and Mrs Carl Stoll of Marshallville on February 13 a son to Mr and Mrs James Anderson of North State Street in Wadsworth Hospital on February 17 a son to Pvt and Mrs Howard Shriner of Wright Street connected to Rose Felix with husband in the Army on February 17 a daughter to Mr and Mrs Lee Bailey of River Styx at Wadsworth Hospital also February 17 the daughter will be named with initial J as the couple already has four daughters with that initial.
Miss Mary Ellen Conover of Rittman enters the WAVES after passing all requirements. She will continue her job at the Marion Reserve Power Co while awaiting training duty.
In Rittman Ohio Mayor John W Baldwin called a special council meeting at City Hall for Friday night to discuss the village position on the new slow time measure signed by Governor John Bricker. The issue touches Akron war industries and public transportation as unions and management favor maintaining interstate wartime schedules.
Midnight Wednesday saw a nationwide freeze on canned meat and fish items for up to 60 days to test consumer demand and curb shortages. Major items affected include canned salmon sardines tuna mackerel and related products with exemptions for certain processed foods and some nonsealed items.
Rittman public schools will dismiss Tuesday to Friday February 23 26 to issue War Ration Book No 2. Supt V A Carver says teachers and volunteers will assist. Clarence Kindly leads registration at First Street Building opposite football stadium. Book Two may take longer to issue than Book One.
Real estate tax payments must be made bySaturday February 20 at the Rittman Savings Bank with cashier Ralph Kral announcing. Books return to Wooster early next week and the bank observes Monday as the George Washington holiday.
Officials announce future street checks on vehicles in Rittman to ensure proper gasoline rationing stickers are displayed. Violators will have names forwarded to rationing headquarters for action.
A dairy plant run by Mr. G Bommer may keep him as cheese maker while shifting to ice cream from external mix. A directors meeting is planned tonight to solve problems and may issue an official report to the press.
Elizabeth Jones 84 died Wednesday at 2 30 a m at her daughter Mrs Fred Rautherberg's home. Services Saturday 2 30 p m at Ebert Funeral Home with burial in Rittman Cemetery. Rev Ord Gehman will officiate. Survived by daughter Mrs W M Rickabaugh of Cleve and eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Friends may call Friday 7 to 9 p m.
Charles B and May A Wilson transfer the Rittman lot to Maurice F Stilwill for a consideration of $1. The brief notice records a deed involved with property in Rittman and names the parties to the transaction.
Seventeen Rittman residents donated a pint of blood last week and traveled to Wooster to meet the Red Cross donors unit. Mrs. John Fisher will headline the next Rittman group to go to Wooster in mid April and asks every willing person to register with her. Transportation will be provided.
