City council met Monday with Mayor presiding. Absent clerk Hicken. Smith filled vacancy. An ordinance creating a three member board of public affairs was passed under suspension. Peters hired as engineer for the year. Plans discussed for water works sewer system and liquor regulation ordinance.
Surveyors have progressed on the proposed electric line through the village. The Lathrop & Shea Company notes fundraising and right of way efforts are moving, with plans to review changes after full route surveys and plans are completed.

Charles Kunkler, a section foreman, ran full speed to scoop five year old Lois Shelly from a railroad track just as Erie Train 13 sped past at fifty to sixty miles an hour. Watchman Peter Basco, despite losing a hand, appealed to the child and attempted a grab but failed as the train forced Basco away and Kunkler saved the child with the rails clear. The incident near South Main crossing earns praise for both men and calls for Carnegie medal recognition.

Lloyd Richards and Osif Polin Schiff faced police court Monday evening on a fighting charge. Both pleaded guilty and were fined $10.00 plus costs by Judge Hanes, with the fines suspended on good behavior and to be reimposed if a second charge is filed.

A government notice quarantines parts of Warne county including several townships such as Congress Cinaan Chester Warne Piam Wooster Franklau and Chooten. It bans movement of cattle sheep and other ruminants into and out of the territory and prohibits hay straw fodder manure hides and related goods. Public stockyards must be cleaned and disinfected and rubber cars for transporting live stock are prohibited until further notice.
Amusement notes report rising crowds at local theaters with good value for patrons. The Kuttman and Trey Hearts programs attract visitors from neighboring towns as new features like The Animated Weekly promise to recap major events of the week.
Senator from Dermott in Trumbull County introduces a measure dividing the state into 33 license districts with appointive zones, creating a two-tier license system restricting wholesalers and retailers. The bill abolishes the current liquor license commission, replacing it with a state excise and law enforcement commissioner, two-year terms, and a $3600 salary plus a $20000 bond, subject to court review for license denials. Citizens must have resided in the state for a year.
A bill proposes two year licenses under a new commission for saloonkeepers and others. The measure, effective June 2, would grant licenses and give preference to certain holders as defined by the 1933 act and commission provisions.
