In Akron Common Pleas Court Clifford Thonen of Rittman was freed after the case against him for burglary was dropped. Frank Skraba, also of Rittman and previously convicted, testified then refused to incriminate himself. Skraba and Thonen were linked by a 4 am Barberton meeting after the crime. later, Skraba left for jail, while Thonen walked free.

Sixth Graders Start Heart Fund Drive at First Street School
Mrs Perry's sixth grade class at First Street School began a Heart Fund drive by making their own valentines and donating the money they would have spent. Music Students Take Top Ratings at Wayne County Contest
Rittman students earned nine excellent and six superior ratings last Saturday in the Wayne County concert. Dalton High School had twenty-two participants across fifteen events with several musicians rated superior including Gat Taslor Mary Arr Yobell Binnie Booth Marjorie Angelo Tim Bennett Marion Pernod Jane Hoover. Jeff Haller led the sax quartet of Peggy Lutz Ricky Allenbaugh Lois Workman and Karen Trogdon to an excellent score. Other superior notes went to Northy Tucker Verniece Fawcett Don Jordan Connie Tabor and the clarinet quartet Chelysa Wiles Tom Breece Bett Weideman and Kathy Bernhard.

Chippewa High School won first place at the Wayne County Debate Tournament in Wooster on February 8 and 9, defeating six schools. Team members Marweatherine Thomas, Dave Adams, Greg Brudos, and Larry Blosser, coached by Jack Dorricott, earned the top award and qualified for the state tournament in Columbus on March 17 and 18.
