A jumble of town items from a gossip column to council actions. The piece notes spring weed killer purchase, unmoved lots complaints, births and anniversaries, club meetings, library hours, and civic notices alongside humorous yarns about a cat, mischief by local ladies, and a shoplifter incident.
Rittman and Wadsworth councilors reviewed two water survey reports by Stanley Engineering of Cleveland and Burgess and Niple of Columbus. Officials favor further study and possible future land use, with immediate dam construction unlikely. Chippewa Creek pumping plan projected to cost 1.5 million with 6.2 million gallons daily output, meeting 1985 industrial needs.
Rationale for a broader summer session was discussed with high school interest at 83 students including 64 in driving training 15 in typing and four in other courses. Class times 8 to 11 from June 4 to August 3 with Fourth of July break. Adult students possible.
Rittman merchants announce a giant Washington's Birthday Sell A Thon next week with stickers on storefronts. Stores will hold three day sales Thursday Friday and Saturday offering their biggest savings in years. A Rittman Shopper and the Press will publish a circular listing specials.
The Parent Teachers Association recognized founders day and honored past presidents with pins. Red carnations were given to the ladies of former presidents. A letter of thanks for a Kent State University Extension donation was received. Details of the tenth annual minstrel show were discussed for March 15 16 17.
Nearly 100 residents will canvass Rittman February 18 to 24 to support the Tri County Guidance Center at Wooster. Co chairs Mrs George Hileman and John Morford lead the effort with house to house volunteers and captains coordinating industry and professional offices.
Evangelical United Brethren Church hosts an open house for Sunday School children and teachers from 9 50 to 10 25. Parents may view lessons and classroom methods, including new blackboards bulletin boards and teaching approaches funded by the church men’s class.
The Rittman High School Concert Zant presents a midwinter concert this Saturday at 8 pm in the high school gym. The 68 piece band performs classical transcriptions and contemporary works from ballet to nostalgia, opening with March for the King’s Regiment and closing with With Freedoms Flag.
Myron H. Steiner announces seventh and eighth grade honor rolls for the third six weeks. Eighth grade first honor roll: Larry Rufener Jane Bennett Patty Robinson. Second honor roll includes Jim Felix Mark Steiner Linda Firis Karen McComas Fred Freed Frances Dysinger Charlene Lapp Becky Pyle Brenda Salisbury Jeff Haller Marilyn Emch Linda Lukhauf Janet Sadauskas Gail Taylor.
Guilford Township Trustees approved a renewal of their fire contract at no rate increase, effective March 3. The minimum annual fee remains 200 dollars for the first fire and 50 dollars for each subsequent fire. City Manager Charles Mann noted no fires in Guilford Two for five or six years.
The University of Akron lists three area students Linda Pope RD Rittman and Sarah J Fielder of 301 Fairview Doylestown and Larry Gordon RD Creston on the Dean's List for Fall 1961. Each achieved a B plus or better average while carrying at least 12 semester credit hours.
Milton Township trustees awarded a contract for a 1200 gallon pumper for Toansho Fire Department to Surphen Fayne Themt-Compa with ivane Care. The claim was approved by Trustee Chairman Witter Ula and member Boos Yoder. Meeting adjourned with a supper for Sterling firemen.
World War I veterans will meet Tuesday at 7 pm at the American Legion Home to discuss establishing a new barracks. Kendall, commander of District 11, and Doyle Ditmars of Holmesville, district adjutant, will be present to recruit local veterans. Many inquiries have reached the adjutant and organizers hope for a strong turnout.
Twenty seven Rittman residents will attend the Wayne County Lincoln Day Dinner at Wooster YMCA Saturday evening. State Auditor James A Rhodes will address the gathering, sponsored by the Wayne County Young Republican Club with the county GOP Committee. House Speaker Roger Cloud will also speak to the group.
Recent court matters list names and charges including Robert Weidman Medina speeding fined 950 dollars and Robert J Noble Wadsworth speeding fined 950 dollars. Also Elijah D Whytsell Ruttman disregard traffic light fined 10 dollars and Phyllis D Propst Akron speeding fined 19.50 dollars. Glenn D Bellamy Rittman reckless driving 30 dollars. James Perry Rittman intoxication 30.50 dollars. William L Workman Rittman driving while intoxicated 105.50 dollars and three days in jail.
The Wayne Holmes Medina Guidance Center drive received a donation from the American Legion Auxiliary at their Monday meeting. Two members voted for two flags for West Hal Scheyl and High Scil gymnasium. Plans were set for an anniversary event March 12 at Williams Restaurant with details to be finalized by committee chairs Mrs. Boyd Miller, Mrs. Mary Rohrer, and Mrs. Dale Rohrer.
