On Tuesday night the Parents Teachers Association met to discuss agenda. Two teachers resigned. Miss Collier becomes assistant cashier of Ritman Savings Bank.
In Rittman high school Tuesday night a Parent Teachers Organization formed with Mrs. J B Hickin as president and XTi Collier as vice president. A constitution draft was to be reported at the next meeting on the second Wednesday in March. Miss Palmer and Miss Collier resigned from teaching positions. Miss Faye Motz appointed to the eighth grade. A reception honored departing teachers after a basketball game, and surrounding events included talks on playground equipment, a reading room, and a possible Y M C A branch.

Mrs Roy Blough formerly Miss Marguerite Turner was rushed to the People's Hospital in Akron early Saturday for a premature birth operation. Reports say she was improving by Tuesday, though relatives faced a serious condition and an ambulance trip from Wadsworth. The infant died shortly after birth. Roy Blough recently discharged from Camp Sherman had joined her in Akron and stayed until her condition improved enough for him to return to Ritt.
Mrs. Rachael Davison died at her Easton area home on February 1 1919 aged 66 years 9 months and 2 days. She was born May 29 1852 and was the widow of Franklin Davison married February 14 1888. She joined Easton E B church last April under Rev Nellie Showmin and burial was in Easton Cemetery after services at Easton A B church conducted by Lawrence Spence of Rittman. She was survived by two brothers one sister and an adopted sister.
The family of Franklin Davison expresses gratitude to all who helped during illness and after the death of their wife and aunt.
The couple Dunning Stephen De Foe and Norah Baker were married by Rev. D. C. De Foe at the U B parsonage Tuesday evening and planned to reside in Akron Massillon and Micham. The groom works in an Akron printing office and the bride previously worked in J A Fisher’s office and at the M W & O telephone exchange in Rittman.
Last week ML W Bechtel purchased the business block housing his restaurant from Rittman Savings Bank for about 3800. He intends property improvements to boost patron comfort and added an Empress Electric player piano bought from a Chicago house, touted as one of the best and expected to attract music lovers.
The Rittman Savings Bank becomes a branch of the United States Employment Service for Rittman area with J. W. Hoover in charge. The service, free to farmers, matches farm help needs with available workers and coordinates through bank contact. Pontius of Canton designated the bank as local agent and urged farmers to report exact needs for proper placement.
A young Ohio Boxboard Co worker in a Rittman boarding house mixed up two letters sending the laundress’s note to his sweetheart and vice versa. The displaced note blamed the laundress for ruined shirts and buttons, ending his romance as the couple eyes him coldly. The moral is clear: avoid mixing laundry with love.
A birthday event honored James Gatehouse at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jamey Gatehouse on Ohio Ave. on February 11, 1919. Guests enjoyed a 6 o'clock dinner with chicken and seasonal delicacies, music, and Father Wilkutaitis stories.
The Ohio Match Co at Wadsworth will operate four days a week until further notice as demand slows and stocks rise. About 50 workers, men and women, were laid off as production slows due to slow demand for goods and large unsold stock.
Mrs Miriam Beale wife of Roy Beale died at her home near Smithville Tuesday of last week after an influenza attack. She was the daughter of James Miller of Sterling. Burial was near Sterling after a funeral held late last week. The Beale and Miller families were stricken by influenza about the same time.
The Blattor family extends thanks to all who assisted in the care and burial of their husband and father. Mrs. Davia Blattor and Family express heartfelt gratitude for support.
The G R C W class of the Presbyterian church held a Valentine party at Mr. and Mrs. A L Ebert’s home. Twenty members enjoyed games and a lap lunch after the dainty red heart and cupid decorations. It was the first class social in some time and more events are hoped to follow.
Mrs. Maud Huegle, formerly married to Alex Huegle after a January divorce in Wayne County, remarried February 3 in Dayton, Ohio to Frank Clemmons. Clemmons, an automobile salesman, works for a Dayton firm. News of the marriage reached Rittman relatives last week.
A birthday surprise party was held January 20 at Mr. Wm. Ritter’s home with music and games and a light lunch. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Gannon, Mr. and Mrs. H. Heirs, Mr. and Mrs. Wells, Mr. and Mrs. Galehouse, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Faber, Mr. and Mrs. Tl Mills, Mr. and Mrs. Hf. Weiss, Mr. and Mrs. Foerstner, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Swartz, Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. Newman, Mr. and Mrs. Serex, Mr. and Mrs. Pierce, Mr. and Mrs. Kimpftin, Mrs. Nettie Hull, Mr. John Schorper, and the host and wife.
Frances Bair executrix of David Bair, killed when struck by an Erie train at Ohio Ave crossing in Rittman, received $1250 from The Erie R H. D. N. Bair died days later from injuries. Settlement recorded in Wooster probate court. no lawsuit against the railroad was filed.
Karl E. Hoover and a Wayne county representative introduced a Columbus bill to suspend criminal sentences during appeals. The measure aims to prevent execution of sentences while review proceeds, reflecting concern over appellate delay and due process.
