Spencer Irwin of The Cleveland Plain Dealer spoke to more than 300 Rotarians and Rotaryanns at Smithville Inn Tuesday night about choosing between Hitler’s New Order and a free United States. He warned Americans must win the war first, outlined Nazi propaganda, and described a German plan to dominate Europe and threaten U.S. security.

David R Lance Funeral Rites Held Wednesday
Private funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the residence for David R Lance 71 a well known citizen in Rittman Ohio, who died suddenly of a heart attack Monday at 1am after three days of illness. He was born and raised here and worked in several businesses before joining the grocery trade with his brother Leonard nearly 30 years ago. He was president of the Foreman Citizens Savings and Loan Association, a member of the Order of Divers of the Rittman Savings Bank, served on the Rittman Park board, and attended the United Brethren church. He is survived by his wife Hattie a son Everett two daughters Marie Rice and Mrs Dorothe Boehler and brother Leonard, all of Rittman. The Garden Wedding anniversary was May 37. The funeral was at the residence with Rev W Ice of the United Brethren church officiating. Burial in Rittman Cemetery conducted by A L Ebert Funeral Director. The body lay in state at the Ebert Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 7pm to 9pm for friends to call.

New Cars To Be Rationed In February for Prior Buyers
New car purchasers with contracts between July 1 1941 and January 1 1942 will receive vehicles in February under Office of Price Administration directives. Rationing dates span February 12 to 26 and require evidence including a written contract, cancelled checks, dealer receipts, title or registration transfers for used cars, and sworn statements from registration agencies.

Boxboard Co Proposes Street Changes To Council
Boxboard Company proposed to move Industrial street crossing to east of Ohio Avenue near River Styx bridge to reduce wait times and speed traffic. A second plan would raise Salt street by six feet to improve truck access to the Boxboard stock rooms. Council also approved bills over 1100, set taxi licensing rules for Rittman, and heard park board fund details. The street committee was asked to install a reflector at Bauman street dead end and Marion Reserve Power was asked to cut ten White Way lights on Main Street to save about 650.

Chief of Police Charles Heffel reports two incidents in Medina involving a Medina driver and a Rittman school bus on North Main. Beachy tried a left turn onto Liberty as Notestein’s car passed the bus, scratching the bus and damaging the auto while the bus steering gear was harmed. no injuries. A second collision on Main street left Bernie Cantrell’s car backing into Charles Trent’s auto. both vehicles slightly damaged with no injuries. The office of Dr Alexander was near the scene.
