Rittman High Math Class Finishes Canvass Work

The Mathematics Class of Rittman High School completed a canvass for the new bicentone project. Miss Ruth Saterena is noted for reporting the results and the club sold promotional materials receiving a check for 168 dollars.

Willard Hilty Receives National Scouting Award in Akron

Willard Sham Hilty of Rittman receives the National Scouting Award of Silver Beaver at a Sheraton Hotel banquet in Akron. He has 17 years of Scout service as Neighborhood Commissioner for Chippewa District and Troop 405 committee member, plus past roles in Pack 3400 and Troop 405. He also serves as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher at Milton Presbyterian Church and as Assistant Postmaster for Man for 27 years.

PCA Employees Credit Union Declares 5 Percent Dividend

The PCA Employees Credit Union announced a five percent dividend to 105 members at its 18th annual meeting. 1961 dividends will be paid semi annually on June 30 and December 31. Joe Felix was re elected president for a ninth term. Roy Van Nostran and Carl Adams joined the Credit Committee with 1961 officers including Don Kirk vice president Red Gilbert treasurer and Frank Fetzer secretary Mrs Pereira remains assistant treasurer with aides Mrs Weber and Mrs Castor in the office.

State approves sewage plans before work can start

The city must obtain state approval for Stillson and Associates designs before bidding and construction on the 225000 project can proceed. Plans propose a 40 foot diameter digestor, grit removal, new pump, upgraded meters, sludge tanks, and secondary digestion upgrades on 11 acres near the B and O tracks. The project will be funded by bonds backed by water and sewer rates with state permits renewed to June.

Air Quality Tests Underway in Rittman

City Manager Charles Mann says a state industrial hygiene survey of Rittman air will be released in weeks. The Division of Industrial Hygiene tested two weeks using a portable unit at Atlas Freight Office on Industrial Street and will study results after removal this weekend. Residents had complained chemicals may be harmful as weather brought smoke from plants. Mann noted a new police car arrived and officers will take six weeks of training in Wadsworth.

Rawiga Club elects Heames president and honors members

Robert Heames of Rittman will head the Ra wiga Country Club board for the year. At the annual meeting 200 shareholders named committee chairs led by Max Cole for golf and Clarence Kunkler for greens. Lifetime memberships were awarded to Kunkler Erich and Kohler. retiring president Ed Stentz received a plaque. Dues rise to 145 for golf and 70 for social to fund upstairs updates including a ballroom. Membership increases from 350 to 400, with new shareholders required to be golf members.

Insurance Firms File Suit Against Ohio Fuel Gas Co

Eight insurance companies sue the Ohio Fuel Gas Company in Wayne County Common Pleas Court seeking 42176.12 for explosion and fire that damaged Wayne Packing Co on Front Street on February 11 1959. They claim gas was shut off then reactivated without notice after business hours, filling the building with gas and causing the blast. Losses are listed as 18904 for the building and 523/372 for contents. PTA Minstrel Show End Men Return This Year

Six returning end men Bill Davis George Sandrock Don Neihaus Russ Lewis Ed Bernhardt and Andy Stuff join the PTA Minstrel Show. Cast rehearsals every Wednesday at the high school. Show runs March 17 and 18 in the high school auditorium. Co chairs are Mrs. Harry Ditch and Mrs. Glenn Butler.

Winter Band Concert Next Thursday at Rittman High

The Rittman Concert Band directed by Gene Sharick performs Feb 9 at 7 30 pm in the high school gym. Guest baritone Larry L Douglas, formerly of the US Army Band, appears with Marsha Harris as piano soloist. The 60 piece band plays Brahms and Debussy with Scriabin Etudes and light selections, tickets 75 cents for adults 50 cents for students.

Hear Report On Parking Meters February 15

Council and Chamber officials will hear Frenau Inc on a parking study done in Rittman this fall. City Manager Charles Mann says the meeting is open to the public for opinions on meters. A prior survey by Engineering Associates was discussed last year before a study decision.

Winter Band Concert Set by North Central Schools

The Junior High Music Department of North Central School District presents a winter concert this Sunday at 3 30 p.m. in Norwayne High School. More than 160 seventh and eighth grade students will participate. Admission is free and open to the public.

Ritfman Band Seeks Patrons and Guarantors This Season

Ritfman High School Band launches a drive for subscriptions to the Patrons and Guarantors Program for the current concert season. Members sell $3 memberships granting two adult tickets per concert, with $500+ donors becoming guarantors for reserved seats and extra tickets. Mann returned from the Ohio City Manager's Association meeting in Dayton stating his city faces problems but gains benefits such as hospitalization and insurance. He noted moves from village to city form and that 5 cities yearly adopt council manager governance. 1 747 towns use it nationwide. Discussions covered Supervisory Purchasing and Community extended Q&A on water supply pay scales personnel and contracts.

AWOL Soldier Arrested in Break In Case

An 18 year old AWOL soldier from Fort Bragg NC was arraigned in Barberton Municipal Court on breaking and entering. Charles C Whitaker was arrested at D and K Supply on Clark Mill Road Monday night. Two younger boys in the building were sent to Akron Juvenile Center for action.

Local Farmer Named To National Post

William A Ruttencutter, RD Rittman dairy farmer, named to a national committee on imports exports price supports and self-help. The panel, under National Milk Producers Federation in Washington, represents 500000 dairy farming families. Ruttencutter is Akron Milk Producers Inc. president and a Great Lakes Milk Marketing Federation director. The annointment was announced last week. Mr and Mrs Butterbutter and their four children live on County Road 108 west of route 94.
