Rittman residents raise 1555 during a month long Mothers March on Polio with school, church and business donations pushing the total to 2611.86 toward a 4000 goal. Volunteers and local service stations contributed through events at the American Legion Hall and other fundraisers.
The speaker thanks the Rittman community for support of the polio drive. He emphasizes the need for funds to develop vaccines and aid those suffering from polio and its lasting effects.
Oliver Hoskinson aged 71 of Sterling died at 10:30 Thursday after being struck by a westbound Erie freight train while walking toward his home in Sterling's business district. He worked at Ohio Boxboard Co. from 1942 to 1950 and is survived by his wife Laura. The body was to be shown at Gillman funeral home. arrangements not known.
The Rittman Chamber of Commerce board elected H. C. Longworth president for the coming year. George Grifforth was named vice president, with Robert Bodager and Ralph Krabill re elected as secretary and treasurer. Longworth has been a longtime member since 1949 and is an Ohio Edison Co. manager. he and his wife live on Weedlawn Ave and he formerly served as Rotary Club president in 1955.
The Board of Public Works discussed opening additional lots for home building this spring. Ed Musser chaired with A M Wenger, John Zivick attending. C E Rhonemus solicitor and others present including Russell W Frey and Paul J Emch.
The Showboat Minstrels rehearse Sundays at 2 PM in the high school study hall, in addition to weekly Wednesday sessions at 8 15 PM. The event, sponsored by the Rittman PTA to fund a scholarship, debuts March 9 and 10 under Mrs. Robert Davis. Interested participants should contact Mrs. Davis or join a rehearsal.
Kenneth Griner and Eugene Perry of Rittman were hospitalized after a 2:30 a.m. crash on Rt 94 near the edge of town. Griner suffered back injuries and Perry head injuries. both were treated at Wadsworth Hospital and released. No charges were filed per Sgt. Merle Heffelman.
Convalescing Mrs. John Luikart of E Sunset Dr extension returned home Sunday after five weeks at Wadsworth Hospital. Visitors are welcome. Mrs. Arthur Bodager, recovering from surgery at Orrville Osteopathic Hospital, is convalescing at her home on N Main St.
Albert Adkins 79 died Monday after a nine month illness at a son's home in West Hill Avenue. A Ferguson native and lifelong West Virginia resident, he was a retired farmer and member of Stilmer Baptist Church. Survived by wife Tennie. three daughters Mary Machant, Thelma Napier, Laura Williams. six sons Ther man Jones W H Lucian Basil and Chapman. 21 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. sister Mrs Sadie Murray. Services were held Thursday at Stilmer Baptist Church with burial in Long Point Cemetery.
Patty Sue Morr seven months old daughter of Mr and Mrs Lester Morr died Tuesday evening en route to Wooster after falling gravely ill. Services set for Friday at 2 pm at Wooster Baptist Temple with Rev Charles Crabtree officiating. Burial in Plain Church Cemetery. Survived by parents two sisters Doris and Sharon three brothers Mervin Eddie Wayne and Ronald and grandparents. Friends may call Gillman funeral home until 11 pm Friday.
Mrs. Eler i Gearhart 85 died at Wadsworth Municipal Hospital from a short illness. Funeral services were held at Gillman Funeral Home with pastor D. T. R. McLean D. D. officiating. She lived in Milton Township and later Rittman, survived by sisters Pearl Oehler Jessie Long and Katie Kauffman. brother Webb Mougey. Burial followed at Rittman Cemetery.

The Junior Achievement program in Rittman uses teen companies sponsored by the Ohio Boxboard Management Club to teach students aged 15 to 19 about business. They organize, issue stock, elect officers, produce and sell goods, and report to stockholders while balancing profits and school work.
Rittman high school plans its May 29 commencement with Dr. eRe EN Rosemargy of Newark as speaker. The meeting covered auditing notes, facility plans, staff changes, and a 1956-57 calendar including holidays and school closing dates.
A proclamation extols Junior Achievement and its learn by doing program guiding American youth to start small businesses while noting thousands of American business leaders volunteer time and counsel for JA members.
The Wayne County Cancer Crusade launches its local drive February 13 in Rittman with a goal of 1600 and a countywide aim of 17000. Gordon Jeffrey urged volunteers to inform homes about cancer control and raise funds while researchers seek cures.
