Joseph Landis, Rittman Leader, Dies After Long Illness
Joseph C. Landis, aged 62, longtime Rittman resident and public figure, died after a lengthy illness. Services were held at the Mennonite church with Rev. Rohrer and Rev. Benjamin Good officiating. Burial followed in Mennonite Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Dayra, two sons Willard and Owen, and one grandchild Dale. Landis helped build Ohio Boxboard and the first Ohio Salt building, co-founded Hershey and Rohrer grain elevator, and ran Rittman Hardware from 1910 to 1926, later active in public affairs and local boards. He held township trustee, village treasurer, and education board roles, and belonged to Eagles and Junto lodges.
