Thomas Fritz a former Rittman resident visiting Marshal Cox's home in Wadsworth shot himself in the heart after expressing dissatisfaction with moving home. He had recently moved from Rittman, owned land in Rettman area, and left behind a web of acquaintances. Funeral services were held at Heneryvett and he was buried in Shimersburg cemetery.

J B Hanes Dies Sudden After Illnesses in 1917
J B Hanes of Ritman died suddenly at 3400 a m on December 21 after an illness of several days. He moved to New Philadelphia on November 6 and planned a service of the Amanoan Railroad Express. He leaves a wife and son Herbert. he was a former police judge and a Democratic candidate for Ohio legislature. The funeral was in Bath in Lamont county with services held there. He was a longtime citizen of Ritman and partner in furniture and undertaking. His death follows a heart condition linked to influenza neuralgia.
