William Heiks treasurer reports a total of 1945.16 pledged and paid to date for the 1937 Community Fund drive. Apportionments show donations from community groups and organizations including Marion Reserve Power Co and local grocers. The meeting discussed card returns and hospital commitments with officials present.
John B. Yoder aged 67 died last Wednesday morning about 11 30 in his orchard northwest of Smithville and was found by a neighbor at 580 ppm. He lived alone and is survived by wife Alice and two children Anna and Ivan. Funeral services were held at 2 pm Saturday at Oak Grove church with burial in Oak Grove cemetery. Six nephews served as pallbearers and A L Ebet of Rittman directed arrangements.
Local Manager G. H Steele arranged Marion Reserve Power Company to provide 24 turkeys for 24 employees in Rittman three markets. The birds will be presented December 23.
John J Wein deputy U S Marshal rammed his 1937 Chevrolet into a milk truck in Wadsworth at 7 am Monday. The front end was badly damaged with the hood shell and grill crumpled a punctured radiator and battered left fender. The left headlamp glass shattered but the bumper remained intact as it slid under the truck bed.
The Byron Gish estate, valued at 18 798, left to beneficiaries including James B Galehouse mayor of Rittman, W Arley Gish of West Hollywood and Irene and Ethel Snyder. Executors named are Galehouse and Gish. The will dated November 29 1937 covers household goods, stamps and securities with residue divided among heirs and cousins listed. Wadsworth court records show appraisals and witnesses Fern Smith Ida McKelvie and Dwight Hoff. attorney W W Garver of Wadsworth.
The Herbert Arnold family reported their Barbertown Ohio car stolen Saturday evening while shopping for Christmas. Marshal Morgan spotted the abandoned vehicle on Route 94 with no gas and towed it to safety. Barberton police later claimed the car, and Mr Arnold found nothing missing.
M J Willis was installed as Worshipful Master of Carl W telenwood lodge at the temple on the Square last Friday night marking the lodge's fourth year under his leadership. The ceremony drew past masters from Wooster Ashland and Seville with refreshments served afterward. Other officers installed included J J Williams senior warden A T Jones junior warden R J Krabil treasurer F C Stocker secretary G H Ingie chaplain Phillip Young senior deacon E E Cay junior deacon Roy Wiaker senior Steward James Andrews junior steward Alex Christian Tyler.
Miss Emily Noyes 91 died Saturday after a week with pneumonia at her Saville home. Funeral held Tuesday at 2 pm at the Presbyterian Church Seville with Rev E T Roney and Charles Wishart officiating. Burial in Mound Cemetery. Armstrong Funeral Home in charge. She was Wooster College class of 1874's first woman graduate and longtime teacher. Her family legacy includes Rev Noyes founder of Seville church and Harriet Noyes who served 50 years in China. Nephew Perm 1 Noyes of Toronto is surviving relative.
Jack Jivingston of Medina now manages The Rittman House after an advertisement in The Presa announced the change this week. He plans to enlarge the kitchen for full meals and will keep existing staff. Livingston previously ran the Livingston Tavern in Medina and has seven years at the Hollenden Hotel in Cleveland.
Lifters eliminations moved from Friday to Sunday at 2 p m. Rittman and Barberton teams compete in the Akron Y contest. Rittman led 1525 to 1518 with Carl Thompson George Brown and William Brown on the Rittman squad and Tony Chapandy Albert Cordas and Ed Perry representing Barberton.

Price Russell aged 75 a veteran Democratic politician and public servant was laid to rest in LeRoy cemetery after a December stroke. He served as mayor of Creston warden of Ohio Penitentiary state representative and floor leader, taught school edited the Medina Sentinel and advised governors Cox and Donahoe. He is survived by his wife Loona, a daughter, a sister, and a brother. Services conducted at the home with Masonic Lodge at the grave.
City Hall hosts a growing number of overnight guests with five sleeping in the transient room Sunday night. Saturday saw four, Thursday nine, and two weeks ago a record ten in one night. Building manager Kurtz can provide details.
Jane Aileen Schultz is the granddaughter of eight with four living grandparents and four living great grandparents. Grandparents are Walter Schultz of Rittman and Perry Herman of Spencer. Great grandparents are Sam Herman of Spencer and Charles Siders of Chatham. Born December 15 to Mr and Mrs Marion Schultz.
Mrs Louie Zuercher aged 91 dies at her daughter's home in Second Street. A service was held at 230 Wednesday afternoon with Rev C J McGee. Burial at Grandview Cemetery Powhatten Point service followed. Mrs Zuercher survived by daughter Mrs Albert Carpenter and son Charles Zuercher. Mrs Ernest Shaw aged 60 dies after a stroke at her Seville area home. She leaves husband and two sons Donald and Lloyd. Albert Everett Glesaner 61 dies at sister’s home, moving from Sterning to Barberton area earlier. Funeral arrangements made by Albert Everett Glesaner Funeral Home. Burial planned at Rittman cemetery. All deaths reported to A Ebert Funeral Home within 90 minutes Monday night.
Two Rittman youths were involved in a broadside auto crash at the Chestnut and East Avenue intersection in Wadsworth Saturday morning. Landis, 97 N Main St, was unhurt, while Frances Brickel, 4 W Second St, suffered a head contusion and was treated at Wade Worth hospital with X ray exams. A Salvation Army car driven by an unidentified youth struck Landis amidships after allegedly darting from Chestnut into East Avenue. The Salvation Army captain reported lending his car to the boy to deliver a package. both cars were insured.
A capacity audience watched the Primary Grades and the High School Band present a Christmas pageant in the school auditorium. The primary group directed by Miss Evelyn Harter and others performed with Santa Claus gifts, while the reorganized High School Band under Fred Pebey impressed with precision and a baritone solo by Frank Hickin. The program included varied pieces from Bell to Cathedral Echoes and earned an invitation for the band to a future convention.
Ellen Reece was granted divorce from C Everatt Reece in Judge Walter Mougeys court at Wooster. C E Rhanaemans represented the plaintiff, Mrs. Reece.
Farmers' Dairy Products Co stockholders met at Brantxan Hall reporting a profitable year ending November 30 1987 with assets over 24000 and 663 wheels of cheese produced totaling about 180 pounds each. The cooperative paid debts built new rooms and equipment and logged ample stock in surplus milk purchases and sales. Officers and board members were reelected with plans to reorganize and distribute uncollected interest checks to nonattending stockholders.
Postmaster Robert Hickin says Rittman's largest mailing occurred Monday December 2 with 67 mail sacks sent to homes and offices across the United States. If laid side by side the sacks would stretch about 184 feet. about 7,000 letters were cancelled that day, far above the average.
Sylvester Shira, a Shira- Rolph Hardware customer, reportedly stepped onto a street and fell heavily near 108 8. Main. Reports say he narrowly escaped serious injuries amid a crowded campaign scene.
Officials of the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co sign a lease for the former Thom garage at E Ghio ave and State st to open a large self service grocery market. Remodeling costs are about 68000 with 800 for wiring and a 16 foot parking strip.
