The W. B. A. held an inspection Tuesday evening December 17 at their hall with 38 present including five visitors. The inspecting officer was Mrs. Marie Bilderbath and guests included Mrs. Wafler Miss Wafier Mrs. John Butter of Orrville and Mrs. Miller of Wadsworth Review. Two candidates were initiated. After the business session gifts were exchanged and refreshments served.
The Rittman Village Council sets January 2 1930 for the oath of office for new mayor Frank B Hanes and new council members. The Dec 16 meeting also discussed debts and proposed a New Year party fund drawing contention.
Mrs GD R Niles Sunday school class held a Christmas party at Mrs William Hershey home Tuesday evening. The social committee arranged holiday decor, gift exchange, and officer elections. Elected: instructor Mrs D R Niles, assistant Mrs Henry Leady, treasurer Mrs Wm Rike, assistant Mrs W B Lee. Flower fund lead Mrs Frantees Bair, assistant Mrs C E Castor. About 40 attendees.
Mr and Mrs J 2B Gish plan a winter trip to the Bahamas en route to Pluride. They will halt at Bahama lands for some time and then settle at Chearwater for the winter with an indefinite stay.
The Young Married Women's class of Tuttman United Brethren Church led by Mrs. R. Fredrick visited Wooster last Wednesday evening to present candy and magazines to Wayne County Infirmary inmates. Four automobiles transported the club and its contributions.
Reports from the secret service warn that counterfeit $100 bills are circulating. The notes are described as so perfect that detection requires magnifying glasses to spot differences. Authorities urge vigilance and verification of notes in circulation.
The fourth annual Alumni banquet of Rittman High School will be held Saturday evening December 28 1929 at United Brethren church at 6 pm Prof J C Meyer of Western Reserve University will speak Gainers Trio will provide music Alumni and spouses or friends and both boys and girls teams will play.
The Automobile Club of Rittman announces a Christmas Community Tree event at Rattan Central Park on December 24 starting at 6 pm. Garruthers chairs the committee with W W Garver, Frank Harter, and J J Gannon handling decorations, boxes, and program duties. The tree will be donated to the Wayne County Children's Home after serving its purpose.
A local girl was apprehended for shoplifting in Akron last week and fined. She and several out of town girls were taken to Akron by a neighbor amid temptations of many items. Names are withheld due to reputations. This serves as a warning to parents about honesty.
A group of young married friends gathered on Tuesday night December 17 to celebrate Walter Shook’s Bath birthday. The evening featured time games and a playful bill folded for the guest of honor. Guests included Mr and Mrs Joe Haldimar, Mr and Mrs Carl Schar, Mr and Mrs Ray Younker, Mr and Mrs He A Hefleman, of Rittman, Mr and Mrs Glenn Shire of Wadsworth, and Mr Harlan Schar of Sterling.
Mrs Fannie Spade a longtime Rittman resident died after illness on a Wednesday. She was 77 or 78, married to the late Mr Spade, mother of two sons O M and W Spade, with a nephew Byron Summerlot of Akron and a sister in Washington. Funeral is set for 2 pm at her home and the United Brethren Church at 2730.
Marshall Ed Mills reports no fires, murders, robberies, or missing persons in the past week. Only disturbances involved midnight prowlers investigated with no exciting outcomes, prompting varied local theories about village safety and Christmas celebrations.
Wayne W. Garver and Mr Hiers represented the Rittman Automobile Club and The Ohio Nexboard Co at the 20th annual Ohio Good Roads Federation meeting in Columbus. They reported progress on Route 94 bridges near Charmian and road widening plans. Governor Myron Y. Cooper spoke on highways, joined by Robert Wald, John Boyer, Charles Huckuin, and others in the program.
Widmer, son of Joseph Widmer, suffered a heart attack Monday while on his morning chores. He was cared for at his father's home on State Street and returned home on Grant Street Tuesday. He had several prior attacks.
Miss Lucille Quimby daughter of Mr and Mrs S M Quimby of Sterling Ave was operated on Saturday night for appendicitis. The Quimbys left for the sickroom to be with their daughter as serious complications were reported but she was thought to be past the crisis and on the road to recovery.
The Branigan service annex is set to open in a few days after installations of a show room and a living room suite. The heated annex will offer comfortable, private resting space for Indy visitors and maintain a model auto service facility with steam heating and overhead radiators.
Sterling pupils hosted a rabbit dinner with courtesy of Edward Dalton and Arthur Jordan. Arthur and Edward enjoyed hunting and donated their game to the hospital committee. Other donations followed, including two cans of corn by Mrs. Mart Zeigler.
Rittman area residents urged by R V Frederick to secure 1930 license plates before midnight deadline. Only about 118 licenses issued locally. new plates valid after December 21. Owners who fail to obtain plates risk arrest and penalties.
Regular meeting of the Tuman Women’s Christian Temperance Union was held last Tuesday at Mrs. Aaron’s home. The 2 PM start continued into the afternoon with budgeting and refreshment served. The next WOTU meeting in Rittman will be held next month featuring the tenth annual Prohibition Amendment observance.
On Firat Street the Wm Swartz residence hosted a Sunday School gathering filled with Christmas songs and games. Santa Claus arrived on the front porch and distributed gifts after children promised to be good. Mrs Meredith, a former class member, received a gift and a prize plate, while refreshments were served.
The D. of A. Lone chapter held its regular meeting Thursday evening with about 20 members present. State District Deputy Bana Nine of Akron presided, and after initiation a covered dish luncheon was served. The next meeting is December 19. members should wear white for installation of officers and note a dance on December 21.
Milas Grnevive Rowe daughter of Prof and Mrs Rowe Wooster college won the national music audition contest held in New York City on Saturday night. The Wooster community celebrated with a pajama parade downtown and a Wednesday morning demonstration attended by Rowe her parents and teacher Miss Evans. A large procession marched with high school and college bands and many automobiles. A special chapel program featured speeches and honors.
