Rittman High Declamation Winners Named for County Contest

Doylestown Creston and Rittman declamatory entrants were chosen at Rittman on Tuesday to compete for the county championship December 21. The six Rittman speakers include Kirschner, McFadden, Hasselton, Thomas, Beckwith and Dull with varied readings and strong enunciation. Judges were Henderson Critchfield and Rev Spencer. Gibbons presided as chair.

Horse Drowns In Shallow Stream

David Richard of Sterling drove a wagon across a creek Tuesday when one horse stepped in a hole and both horses were swept down. The wagon overturned and one horse drowned before aid arrived. Merlin Steele freed the other horse, lifting its head from the water as the harness was loosened, saving its life.

World Service Group Holds Christmas Party For Mining District

The World Service Group held a Christmas party at Mrs. W. Osborne's home Tuesday evening. Members donated warm clothing for children to be sent to the mining district in southern Ohio. Sixteen members participated with a red and green scheme on the refreshments. Osborne was assisted by Mrs. James Stemm and Mrs. U. J. Grant.

Mayor Matteson of Seville Dies at 71

Seville mayor Cliff V. Matteson died Thursday night from acute indigestion after returning from a firemen’s show at the town hall. A longtime resident and businessman, he was 71. Funeral arrangements were incomplete.

Gene and Glenn at Wadsworth High School Auditorium

WTAM radio stars Gene and Glenn will appear at the Wadsworth High School Auditorium Saturday December 19 with Joe Baldi and Russell Neff. The duo, known for Spang Bakers and Quaker Oats promotions, perform both matinee and evening shows and have been heard on WTAM for over two years.

Ladies Auxiliary Supports Rittman Needy with Poppy Funds

The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary held a meeting in Rittman to approve gifts totaling 250 dollars to the State Child Welfare and to provide toys to the Meni Orphans home and clothing to the Soldiers and Sailors home in Chillicothe. They raised 15 dollars at a bake sale to aid local unfortunates and will pack boxes for the Automobile Club for the Christmas distribution.

The W C T U met at Mrs W R Shook's Salt Street home Wednesday afternoon for the annual Christmas party. After the business meeting, Mrs Irvin Fritz led the devotionals. Mrs C E Wilson and Mrs Marchwart from Wooster arranged an interesting program. County president attended as guest and refreshments were served later.

Pauline Geiser attends Taylor University in Upland Indiana and played a role in the Christmas pageant held December 15 and 16 under the direction of Professor Barton Noes from the speech department.

Miss Geiser Wins Northeastern Ohio Oratorical Contest

Miss Geiser won the Northeastern Ohio Oratorical contest held in Kent last April for her "Fras Speech" earning a gold medal a permanent plaque for Rittman High and a traveling plaque with the winners name. She also played Jane Baxter in the Junior class play "Seventeen" in 1930. Miss Mollie Bell a 1931 Rittman graduate is attending Taylor University.
