A press release reports that a flu outbreak among a monkey and an elephant prompted drastic action at the zoo. Medic Air was blown into the ventilating system to spread remedy through each cage, described as the first use of medicated air for caged animals.
A large group of 34 farmers at Wayne County Library Wooster OKs a resolution urging the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to revise the Chippewa Watershed appraisal roll The action aims to resume a 3 373 000 project to halt soil erosion control flooding and create recreation areas with 92 percent of funds already pledged by federal state and county governments
Orrville Osteopathic Hospital will hold an election on January 5 1966 for staff officers. Dr William L Walker of Rittman current chief of staff and president will preside. A president elect chief of staff vice chief of staff and a secretary will be named.
Pr. David L. Pelfrey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bascom Pelfrey of Ritman Road 1, has returned after eight months in Wurzburg Germany and a stay at Ft. Sam Houston Hospital in Texas. He entered the Army Sept. 1 1964 trained at Ft. Knox Kentucky and later served at Ft. Sill Oklahoma Ft. Benning Georgia Ft. Dix New Jersey before heading to Germany.
Verne Gebhart and Mrs. E. L. Stentz led the Swame group with a 52 point score as high partners. David Willis pair finished second in north-south with 49. East-west winners Dorothy Wood and Betty Kraver posted 53.5, while R. Myers and B. Oster totaled 46.
Ohio State Board of Education gave the go ahead to plans for a Wayne County Joint Vocational School. Ten districts will have 30 days to commit to joining, with board selection and curriculum development to follow. Plans envision programs in auto mechanics, cosmetology, drafts, radio and TV repair, machining, printing, agriculture, home economics, and adult education.
Laurel and Hardy will be shown at Rittman City Hall on Saturday 2 p.m. in a feature from the series. The Bullfighters runs 62 minutes with admission 25 cents. A second free film Come to the Stable is planned for Friday December 24 at 2 p.m.
Scouts from Santa Cub Pack 3400 will gather at Rittman city hall on Tuesday December 21 at 7 p.m. Each Cub Scout should bring canned goods for the Christmas basket and a tree ornament. Each den plans a short skit for the evening.
Thirty five music students of Mrs. Donna Jean Bauman were entertained at Cleckner's with a Christmas party and supper Monday evening. After a gift exchange and games, Christmas carols were sung.
James R. Witzberger, former Rittman Press editor, becomes public relations director and assistant to the president at Karl Rohrer Associates of Akron. The firm ranks among Ohio’s largest engineering and architectural firms with offices statewide and abroad. a new Barcelona office opens this summer.
The Fain Brooks family on Salt Street Extension faced multiple health and work setbacks last week. Their nine year old Melba suffered a mild stroke and is at Akron Children's Hospital with right side paralysis but improvement. Her father suffered an industrial accident in Orrville losing three fingers and remains at Orrville Dunlap Hospital, with home return expected by press time. This year marks a fourth hospitalization for the family including Mrs. Brooks who has had two surgeries and a previously ill son.
A Tour of Lights for Rittman senior citizens who are shut ins will be held Monday December 20 starting at 7 p.m. The transit will take participants around the city to observe Christmas lighting under the Rittman recreation department led by Julia Harris. Contact City Hall at 9252041 for arrangements and a reception with refreshments will end the evening at West Hill School.
Officials announce Santa will appear at a vacant building south of the Rittman Department Store Friday from 1 to 4 pm and again 6 to 9 pm. He resumes Saturday from 2 pm to 6 pm, with a final appearance Friday, December 24 during a 2 pm city hall movie.
Richard Ingmand is named new manager of the Kroger store on North Main Street in Rittman after transferring from the Akron area where he managed a Kroger store. He has 20 years with Kroger and started in the meat department. Morris moves to Solon to join industrial engineering. Ingmand plans to relocate his family to Rittman when a home is found.
John M. Zook of Goshen College spoke at Rittman High School about attending Goshen College. Goshen enrolled 1079 full time students this fall and offers about 35 fields of study. The college, affiliated with the Mennonite Church, is a four year liberal arts school with a seminary. A college preview for high school seniors is planned for March 18 19 and a week long preview for juniors in June 18 25.
Volunteers are invited to help pack 600 Christmas boxes at the Rittman Fire Department on Thursday December 16 starting at 7 p.m. Lawrence Cline chairs the project. Santa will present the boxes Thursday December 3 at 6 p.m. in the city hall meeting room.
