Go fix the fire refrain in Barton Rees Pogue poem

Gunmen hold up Wooster business office at closing time

Myrtle Scott, a clerk at Annat's in Wooster, witnessed three masked bandits attempting a Saturday night hold up at the business office. An overheard comment from a first grader tied the incident to a planned matinee and Friday night show.

New Construction Continues in Bittman This Fall

The Church of God roof was completed this week and the basement dedicated in 1941. A 46 foot tower will crown the finished church. Wenger Oil Co. garage 39 by 88 feet, pillars-free, with multiple doors and windows. Frye Furniture Co. adds 75 by 45 foot one story warehouse at rear. Rittman Savings Bank rear addition now used for office space.

Military rites held for Dale Bryan in Rittman

The body of 23 year old Dale Bryan arrived in Rittman Monday morning with a military escort. He was killed in Germany on March 25 1945. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Ebert funeral home with Rev William Echols officiating. Burial followed at Military Circle in Rittman cemetery. Surviving are his parents Mr and Mrs William Bryan of Rittman and three half sisters and one half brother.

Nature Movie at High School Shown Monday Evening

A color nature film released by the Ohio Department of Conservation will be shown at the high school Monday at 8 p.m. Supt. W. H Hauenstein Ralph Overholt, who has seen the movie, highly recommends it. The public is invited to attend.

Lions Club hears coach Bennett on Loudonville game

Wayne T. Bennett assistant high school coach spoke at the Lions club on Monday night. He gave a brief recap of the Loudonville game and outlined shot charting and the qualities of a good basketball player. Lester Steele introduced him. Indians Win Opener Then Fall to Spencer in Tough Week

Rittman Indians opened the basketball season by beating Loudonville 56 to 45 on Saturday with Neil Milford scoring 21. They then lost to Spencer 51 to 43 on Tuesday as Britton led Spencer and Mitford was held to three for Rittman.

Council Buys New Spreader To Stop Slippery Streets

The village council voted to purchase a sand and salt spreader from W W Williams Co to keep streets safe this winter. A representative explained unit advantages while other items covered sewer questions and railroad crossing safety requests.

March of Dimes Campaign Committee Named

Ralph Krabill C E Rhonemus and Ernest Harrison were named the Rittman committee for the annual March of Dimes drive to combat infantile paralysis. Rex McSweeney William Wertz and Francis Hillen, all of Wooster, will direct the Wayne county campaign during the last two weeks of January.

Gold mine found by Sigler described as profitable

In Canada on a fishing trip Charles Sigler formerly of Rittman located a vein of gold. A Beacon Journal story last week quoted Helen Waterhouse describing the mine as profitable to operate.
