Verdict Follows Hearings in Rittman Patrolman Case
After two days of testimony in appeal hearings for two dismissed Rittman patrolmen Ronald J Valentine and Billy J Pelfrey, the Civil Service Commission unanimously affirmed their dismissals. City Manager Larry Moedt testified about September 28, the first day of the REA strike, and the concealment of two police cruisers in the city garage. Palacek argued bias against the two employees and called REA members who said the group tied up city equipment. Additional city workers testified that Moedt commented about their "good jobs" and that Chief Heffelman backed the cruiser removal. Valentine claimed Moedt had personal reasons for firing him, noting wage increase approvals from Chief Heffelman.
