An urgent call for a Red Cross organization meeting in Rittman seeks volunteers to form a local chapter. The event, at the Opera House, will include free films before the 7 to 7:30 PM business session, focusing on planning and rapid aid supplies.
A popularity contest features Misses Gertrude Burger Martha Gigandet Catherine Meck ley Marie Maine and a wrist watch prize for two winners. An accush prize rewards the box with the greatest amount. The event includes many features and is set for Saturday afternoon and evening December 15 at Wein's Block Main Street beside Petit'a Cigar store. All are invited.
On a Wednesday in November at 0:00 p m at the parsonage in Rittman Ohio pastor JD C DeFoe united Marion Mills of Rittman with Mrs Mary Mahon of Wandsworth Ohio. Mills long resident and respected. Mrs Mills from a Dunkirk family. The young couple earn the community’s best wishes for a long, happy life.
About 5 o clock Tuesday Mr Mills was stricken with paralysis on his right side and could not speak until Tuesday evening. He is reported much better now as his children were summoned. doctors Prouts and Toland are giving him attentive care and a speedy recovery is hoped.
Orrin Biddle, a U S Navy man stationed at Newport News Virginia, is Home on a ten day furlough with fellow sailors Charlie Rohrer and Tom Hall. Rohrer is in Maryland and Hall in Texas after moves from Georgia on Thanksgiving Day. Biddle visited his sister Mrs John Hatfield and relatives near Massillon before planned return to Virginia Thursday. He notes no idea how long he will stay at Newport News, but expects a change soon. He is the first July enlistee to receive a two furlough.
Mr and Mrs W R Shetler former owners of the Shetler restaurant have sold to Mr Holm and Mr Milford and departed for Beach City for an indefinite stay with his parents Mrs Rebecca Martin and daughter Harriet sister of Mrs Shetler accompanied by Mrs Martin and Harriet's mother left Caston where Harriet found work at the telephone office The community laments their departure and wishes them success in their new homes
A night express train derailed about 2:30 a.m. one mile east of Burbank. The engine tender and seven express cars left the rails, injuring none of the crew. Two cars lay on their sides in a cornfield. a crate bull escaped its cage and fed in the straw. Westbound track out 24 hours. eastbound line remained open with minor delays.
Hartel and Field, workers at a boxboard plant in Easton, Ohio, drove a Ford with a flat tire. While crossing brick pavement south of Rittman the car flipped and landed upside down in a wheat field. Neither man was hurt. the windshield damaged and repairs needed after the three wheel vehicle was driven to Rittman.
John R Landis and Miss Meliss Rohrer married at noon on Thanksgiving day at the bride’s parents home northwest of Ritman Medina county. Rev N A Lind officiated and 43 guests attended a wedding feast. Landis has lived in the northwest, North Dakota and Alberta Canada, selling 806 acres there to invest and make his future home in Ohio.
Indictments against Louis P. Manger of Medina for misrepresenting a stock sold to Wadsworth men were filed last week. Manger posted a $2000 bond signed by several local backers. Wadsworth buyers, led by P C Shank and others, notified the Medina prosecutor they would not appear as witnesses or prosecute.
Wayne county drafts last contingent of 50 men called under the first draft are scheduled for camp on or before December 15. The draft board has been notified and names were published in The Press weeks ago. Severs and Rittman men are among those chosen.
Three cases appear in the family of Mrs Moe widow south of Hitt man in Ne Wo eehgol district near Mit ton twansthp. School closed and pupils vaccinated as health officials report scattered infections. Amiel Wald of Ratt man contracts illness. quarantines set Sunday by Health Officer Linnbert. Sterling neighbors Charlie and Herman Wald also quarantined after working at the Boxhoard factory. Marie Vetter sick at Ridman area. Vetter home quarantined Tuesday afternoon.
A petition signed by 369 Wadsworth voters urged repeal of Sunday closing ordinances. Mayor Boyer had ordered a Sunday opening experiment and hinted at further liberalization. The council did not act, and movers expect no major changes unless assurances about picture houses emerge.
The Rittman Gun Club held its Thanksgiving day shoot with prizes funded by local businessmen. Winners and prize amounts included K. E. Hoover 8.50, J Schorger 7.50, Chas Turner 6.50, FB Vo Schaffter 5.50, Wo Shemory 4.60, Jas Hile 3.50, Dr Pfouts 2.50, Julius Stemner 2.00, Wm Griner 1.650, Bert Gordon 1.00.
A unique Thanksgiving dinner hosted by Miss Lueidle Brenneman and Mr day Brenneman on Salt Street featured a full feast. Guests included the Misses Sarel Kurtz Hattie Smith Nath Sigler Mary Denoke Mather Sigler Lucile Brenneman and Messrs Hardy Miller Worry Shook Boyd Miller John Faber Pate Kror ger Jay Brenneman. Afterward the group took a train to Akron for a Colonial Theatre show before returning home on the B and O line.
Doris Faber youngest child of R E Faber and wife died Monday evening in Akron hospital after two weeks of illness. A J Ebert brought the remains, funeral held Thursday at 10 from the Presbyterian church Reverend D P Herriott officiated. The Faber family receives community sympathy in their hour of need.
A late night disturbance near a restaurant results in Dan Dockman Gargdovich and Tony Gone facing warrants and hearings. Dockman is charged with drunkenness and gambling related offenses while Gone faces charges over keeping an unlawful public restaurant and gambling cards for wagers. Dockman bound over to common pleas court with $100 bail. Gone’s case postponed to December.
Rittman Hi fell 26 10 to a former high school squad last Wednesday in a fast paced game. The home team kept the score close through the final minutes despite lineup changes led by Captain Miller and Shook at center. A pair of Friday matches loom with two games starting at 7 14 and 8 00, admission 25 cents.
A landowner near Rittman reports hunters trespassed on his property the day before Thanksgiving and carried away two ten pound turkeys. He had allowed hunting in the past but now vows to enforce the ban and punish future violators. The report says landowner restrictions arose from hunter conduct and urges respectful behavior by hunters.
