Basketball activities at Rittman High School begin Friday with a double-header in the Rittman gym. Rittman boys vs Creston High School and Rittman girls vs Creston to follow. First game starts promptly at 7 30 p m.
Eugene Hickin of Dover Center Ohio, brother of John Hickin, was in a car collision one mile north of Brunswick on a slippery route while en route to Wooster. Mrs Hickin suffered a broken nose and arm with head and facial cuts. Alfred Harris and Beth Hickin also sustained injuries. The wagon was totaled and both Hickins were hospitalized in Cleveland after first aid. Mr Hickin returned home Tuesday. Mrs Hickin remains for weeks.
The re trial of Elias Arnold and son Arthur for the Raymond Horst kidnapping at Orrville last December began this week. The Arnolds seek innocence with Cleveland attorney Charles Maratallur defending them, while County Prosecutor Walter Mougey represents the state. Judge Turnbaugh of Columbus presides. State star witness Junior Hanna, nine, testifies again to his original story, as the trial proceeds with hope the missing boy may be returned to his mother before next Christmas.
The Queen Esther Circle of the Church of Christ hosts a bake sale and bazaar next Saturday at 10:00 AM in the old post office building on Main Street and Ohio Avenue. The event supports church interests and features high quality, home prepared goods.
From a letter by the Ohio Dental Society, Dr C G Gregg will give a clinic at the state meeting at the Nell House in Columbus on December 5. He will lecture on Technique in Correct Impression Taking and Releasing Upper and Lower Plates before a class of about 1500 students.
A Chevrolet was stolen from the parking grounds of The Ohio Boxboard Co after 10:30 PM Saturday. The vehicle belonged to Jake Reid, longtime Bosboans engineer living in Easton. Police were notified after his night shift ended.
Mary Kathryn McGorry of Mount Marie Academy Canton presented a school auditorium recital performing Bach Sonata in D first movement Hayden Whispering Wind and original Marche Scholaire. An audience of over two hundred applauded and requested an encore, which featured her own composition.
Three Doylestown boys Ralph Sulzbach Russell Sulzbach and Carl Parker were injured when their car collided with another while returning from work in Wadsworth Saturday. Parker suffered a deep scalp wound a broken shoulder and a broken finger and was taken to Barberton hospital. Ralph Sulzbach received bruises and was sent home but developed appendicitis Saturday evening and was rushed to Barberton hospital where an oper ate was performed Sunday. Russell Sulzbach escaped with severe bruises.
The Ladies Aid Society of Rittman will present a chicken supper and bazaar at the Presbyterian Church parlors on Friday evening November 6. Serving from 5 30 to 7 00 o clock, tickets are 50 cents. Afterward, a sale of home made dandy and fancy work will follow.
Members of the W. B. A. met in regular order on Tuesday night December 3 and elected new officers for the year ahead. A white elephant sale provided amusement. All guards and officers are asked to report at the hall next Tuesday at 7 30 for inspection practice on December 17. Reporter.
Rev. and Mrs. A. A. Hunter and children from Cleveland were in a minor crash on the CCC Highway north of Medina while en route to Creston for Thanksgiving at F. W. Jordan's home. The car collided with two others on slippery pavement but all escaped uninjured.
Financial circles report a rumored union of Sears Roebuck Co and J C Penney stores to create a $300,000,000 corporation. The potential merger would create the largest merchandising concern in the United States.
The Rit man Village Council postponed a vote on a gas rate increase proposed by the Ohio Fuel Gas Co for the fourth straight time. Officials plan to meet with neighboring villages to form a unified stance before presenting to the opposing body. Residents object to the proposed price hike on all charges.

It portrays modern parents guiding seventeen year old Willie and his sister Jane with the arrival of Love interest Lolv Pratt. The climax builds to Willie's life decision. performance Friday Dec 13 at eight.
Mrs. Rizor was driving east Thursday when the car skidded on a fire and turned over landing in a ditch. She suffered a broken rib and bruises, while Mr. Rizor in the rear seat was unharmed. The steering wheel broke off and the car was slightly damaged. Mrs. Rizor recuperates at home.
The Citizen's Civic League of R. J. H. staged a humorous mock radio program on November 27. Members impersonated national and internationally known artists, with a station set in an adjoining room of the assembly. The show featured a range from low comedy to classical music.
Mrs Ed Mills traveled to Birmingham last Sunday afternoon to attend the funeral of her cousin Mrs Aliee Sprunk who died Thursday night November 28 at her home Her return trip to Rittman was by motor vehicle.
A. J. Gordon, a sign writer who painted post office signs and air way markers, opens a complete sign shop in the Hershey and Rocer building at 173 South Main Street. The new business offers full sign services for the community.

The sister of Mrs Jacob Lendy died at her Cleveland home last week at age 81. Funeral services were held Wednesday with Mrs Henry Lendy and Misa Minnie Lundy in attendance. She had visited relatives in Rittman and knew many locals. Her brother Jacob could not attend.
Pleasant afternoon spent Tuesday at Mr. A Verne Gebhard's home as the Old Podrida club held its annual Christmas party. Program featured songs games and a gift drawing with contests won by Mrs H Brakewood Mrs Maine and Mrs VA Garver. Refreshments were served by Mrs Verne Gebhard and Mrs A M Wenger with Mesdames Chippinger Day and Carruthers providing entertainment.
The night before Thanksgiving brought freezing rain and heavy snow, turning highways icy and leaving the countryside covered in white. Temperatures hovered near zero as accidents increased and shops reported booming sales amid a harsh cold snap.
The fire alarm siren at The Ohio Salt Co. was triggered remotely by telephone for the first time in Rittman. Marshall Ed Mills activated the alarms at 9 00, 9 16 and 2 30 oclock last Tuesday night, with a telephonist linking the circuit in five seconds. Mills says a water trap in the siren’s steam pipe will complete the upgrade.
At 1 16 in the night last Monday Marshal Mills investigated a muffled nighttime visitor seen near Mr Stout in his garage. The cloaked figure was spotted a second time on Main street and a third time as he jumped into a small car, then disappeared before arrest.
Frank Knepp 63 of Creston dies early Sunday after his car is hit at Make Street crossing by a freight engine passing Creston. The car was carried one mile along the track before the crew halted the train. Survived by widow, three children, and two brothers. Funeral held at Jackson Presbyterian Church with Rev. Stockham officiating. Knepp managed The Basket and Venmor Co. in Creston.
A social note describes a surprise birthday gathering for W B Lee cashier at Toutman Savings Bank. Mrs Lee and Miss Koppes joined in the event with dinner at Hotel Cleveland and a theatre outing to Hold Everything at Hanna Theatre.
Mrs Supon Bittner 63 wife of William Bittner of Doylestown died Friday afternoon after years of illness in Akron General Hospital. She is survived by her husband and three children Mrs Jack Block of New York Mrs J J Bryant of Dover Ohio and Charles Kidney of Doylestown. Funeral services were held Sunday at Memorial Chapel at 1 PM conducted by Rev Shoup. Interment at Brimfield Ohio.
