Sunday shortly after 2:30 pm a westbound freight train derailed six cars at Mainz crossing when a drawbar pulled free and dropped to the roadbed. The crossing and approach were torn up with a leveled bank. No serious injuries reported though delays persisted as wrecking crews repaired the line.
Mr and Mrs Caesar Klaus and nine children return to Eureka Illinois after a three week visit in Ohio. They left August 22 at 4 am from the home of Mr and Mrs John Maibach. The family traveled in a Stanley steam auto and are now home with the rest of their large clan. Mrs Maibach is a sister of Mrs Klaus.
Labor Day at Rittman features two games at the Athletic Field between the Sumner Butter Team of Akron and Rittman’s last team. The forenoon game begins at 1800 oclock and the afternoon game at 230 oclock, with a Doylestown visit to follow next Sunday.
After missing a paper last week, the Rittman Sterling picnic at Chippewa Lake Park on Saturday August 19 drew strong crowds. Committees labored hard to stage the second annual event, and attendance confirmed the effort paid off.
Last Saturday John Baker known as Dad and grandson Foster Baker traveled by horse and buggy toward Indiana for the Baker reunion at Hamilton. A large crowd attended events at the park including a greased pig contest, ball game, and rides, with proceeds funding local road improvements. The Rittman Auto Club distributed ride tickets and balloons, prizes were awarded, and about 900 adults plus 176 children bought tickets totaling around 490 dollars.
Citizens of Rittman plan a land concert and carnival Saturday evening to raise funds for park improvements. The event features the Rittman band and typical carnival fare. donations of candy, fish pond prizes, and other items are welcomed to boost the fund, which stands at 106 dollars and needs more support.
Last Saturday evening the town of Rittman felt crowded as many shopped the Community Club sale. Stores offered bargains that drew buyers from surrounding areas, boosting car traffic and signaling growing interest in future events. Vendors note crowds improve with each sale and expect even larger turnout next time.
Final preparations for Labor Day mark the 146th Infantry annual reunion in Wooster. About 500 veterans from Bucyrus, Mansfield, Akron, Canton, Lima, Kenton and others are expected, with a banquet funded by local merchants and Wooster Legion posts.
The local town team and about 360 rooters traveled to Orrville to face the railroad team. Orrville won 6 to 4 after Rittman tied 6 to 6 in the seventh. calls favored the railroaders and sparked discontent among locals. Orrville now has won 20 of 21 games at home this season.
ACME People will build here a purchase from the M W C Tat Co of the lot across Main from the post office during the past week by the Albrecht people would indicate that Rittman is soon to have another ergory store. Two story brick structure 25 by 70 feet will grace the Square before winter. Upper story to be occupied by M W C Tel Co offices. Work will begin at once. Acme operates a chain of 67 stores at present.
Wayne County Law Enforcement League led by John Fisher and Marshal Mills, with deputies, raided the home of John Banman near Rittman. The search found about 30 gallons of liquor and roughly three barrels of mash. Mayor Shackleford presided, imposing a $300 fine and costs on Banman.
The Cuitkens Savings Loan Company confirms permanent relocation to the former Durham stock room in the Sigler block on South Main. Furniture delays noted, with fixtures arriving by September and an opening not later than October. Mr. Oda and Mr. Bodexer cited as key figures in the transition.
Adelbert Miller and wife request county court intervention amid alleged cruelties and threats. She cites family disturbances and seeks division of property and related rights, naming attorney Walter J. Motisey and Karl H. Hoover in the action. Miller, a longtime Rittman resident, works in a local factory.
A Brooklyn park gathering labeled a social event attracted numerous attendees including Mr and Mrs Boll Mr Charlie Mrs Theo Ruth and Bert along with several others. The report notes food and dancing as part of the day’s recreation while listing several guests by name.
In Waynip county a sheriff reported two prisoners, Evero teen Rittman and Charles Ringe, bound over after a hearing. Brothers Glyde and Ring were charged with assault and battery as the grand jury considers their case.
