William Brenneman a former Ritt man resident is confined to Wooster Community Hospital for treatment with relatives at his side and local medical staff providing care during his recovery.
Vacation time ended early for area students as football season approaches. Players have practiced twice daily in Rittman Doylestown and Norwayne for two weeks. Band members majorettes and cheerleaders rehearse daily to entertain fans during halftime.
The Merchants' Committee finals offer an all expense weekend in New York City for the winner and a companion, with hotel near Times Square and meals. Alternate prize is 150 dollars. a 50 dollar silver prize is also drawn Friday night. Tickets sold at participating Rittman merchants this week.
Patricia Ann Metheny infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Samuel Metheny of Rittman RD 1 died Wednesday afternoon at Wadsworth Municipal Hospital soon after birth. Surviving are two sisters Kathy and Karen, maternal grandparents, and several aunts and uncles. Graveside services Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pittman Cemetery conducted by Rev J W Plummer.
Glenn McConnell former Ritt manite was elected Sales Manager at Lee City Tire and Cook Bros in Akron after three years with the firm. He resides at 258 Valley View Dr in Wadsworth.
Ohio Public Utilities Commission is investigating a proposed 33 percent gas rate increase by Ohio Fuel Gas Company in Rittman. The report is not yet completed, with a deadline now set for the first two weeks of September.
Mr and Mrs Clinton Noble entertained First Church of God members at their Smithville home in a farewell party honoring Mr and Mrs Roy Cherry. About 55 attendees enjoyed a cafeteria style covered dish dinner.
The event beings Tuesday at 7 pm with Canton Glenwood opposing the Indians. Rittman and Glenwood demonstrate offensive and defensive patterns, county coaches explain two point after touchdown rules, then a band performance under Bupene Sharick. A two quarter game follows using a new scoreboard, after which parents and players share refreshments.
School bells ring September 3 marking the opening day for about 1,300 students across Rittman’s three elementary schools and high school. Teachers begin September 2 with a breakfast and meetings. kindergarten parents also meet to discuss enrollment and programs.
The American Legion Auxiliary observed their 37th anniversary with a chicken dinner at the Legion Home on Sunset Drive. Gold Star Mother Mrs Howard Clipvinger and charter members including Mrs Boyd Miller Mrs Charles Rohrer and Mrs Carl Milford attended. About 55 guests enjoyed a blue and gold cake as retiring president Mrs Walter Sommers and incoming president Mrs William H Tomp kins oversaw the event.
An overflow crowd of about 500 attended the Rittman Bowling Center open house at the new location. Mayor Orla Houglan bowled a ball to open festivities. Prize winners included George Rastorfer, H. M. Gercke, Franks Ellis, Marjory Schumacher, Mrs Don Baker, and Joe Gordon. Regular season starts Sept 2 with the Ohio Boxboard league first to use the alleys.
Walter Jandrevin announces six new teachers in the North Central system with Creston Elementary vacancy to fill. The district plans a September 3 opening for a full day, four schools and cafeterias in operation. New hires include Chas Allen at Norwayne High teaching commercial subjects American History and coaching, Dorothy Crushel teaching mathematics, and Fernand Jacques fresh graduate from Montreal University to teach Latin French and English.
Rogues Hollow School No 5 alumni plan their 32nd annual reunion on September 7 starting at noon DST on the grounds of Mr and Mrs Quirk Scudder Route 1 west of the Hollow. Anthony Paridon presides with Grace L Schacter as secretary and Mrs Walter Collier assisting.
The Rittman Boosters Club hosts a sock hop Friday night from 9 to 12 in the new gym. Bill Ridenout of WWST will spin records and give some away. Admission is 75 cents per person with proceeds to repay bonds on the new scoreboard.
Rittman swimming pool will be open from 3 to 9 pm daily after school starts as per pool manager Jerry Whims. Regular hours remain in effect until Wednesday and the pool will close for the summer on September 14.
Banks in Rittman Doylestown Sterling and Creston will observe a Monday September holiday. Regular banking hours resume the following day.
Village council votes to halt paving on Maplewood and Hawthorne Avenues until spring due to contractor uncertainty and potential winter weather delays. Concrete bids on N State Street and Hickin Avenue were approved for future work, with costs around 18 994 77 and 1 674 50 respectively. The sewer rate for commercial users is reduced to match the water bill, and a 38 555 bond issue was approved for curb and gutter work on Hi and Woodland Aves.
