Car rolls over toddler in driveway accident

Michael Arnold two year old son of Mr and Mrs C R Arnold 30 Lincoln Drive was briefly pinned under a tire after a car rolled from an open door in the driveway He escaped injury though bruises and tire marks appeared His condition improved after X rays at Wadsworth Hospital and home recovery described as miraculous.

Mardi Gras Rain Changes Schedule At Local Recreation Dept

Rain ruined Mardi Gras plans with events cancelled Saturday. Hundreds gathered at American Legion Hall as forecasts failed. Parade and royal couple crowning rescheduled to Friday with registration at 4:30 and parade at 5:30. Barbecue water show at 6 and a 6:30 softball game between Walds Mens Wear and Knights of Phythias.

Mil ton Township planning groups report Sept 5

Four committees in Milton Township Wayne County survey social and economic aspects for a future plan. They will report to a general planning committee on Sept 5 and submit all findings to the State Development Department for an ultimate program. Committees in Sterling Aug 13 already filed reports on school enrollment, land elevation maps, land ownership changes from 1946 to 1958, and land use maps.

Joyce Bright Crowned Queen at Camp Tippecanoe

Joyce Bright twelve of Rittman was chosen queen among 118 campers at Lake Clendening Camp for Crippled Children. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs John W Bright of RD1 Rittman and was sponsored by the Wayne County Committee for Crippled Children. Joyce, polio survivor, enjoyed crafts swimming archery air rifle horseback riding games boat rides and fishing during the week long camp. This was her second year at the camp near Canton operated by Canton district YMCA.

Third Accident For Gaston's Family Across June To Friday

Mrs Eldin Gaston of Rittman RD and her sister Mrs Ruby Talbert were in a two car crash southwest of Marshallville while en route to Dunlap Hospital for a five year old’s treatment. The family has endured a month long string of accidents since June starting with Connie Critchfield’s injury and Jana Gaston’s toe injury. Mrs Gaston suffered whiplash and Mrs Talbert chest injuries in the Friday collision with a car driven by Kenneth Squires of Fairview Park.

Dog Bite Prompts Police Warning On Loose Dogs

Frank Whitacre of RD Rittman sustained severe hand injuries Tuesday after being bitten by a dog at the corner of Ohio Avenue and Main Street while attempting to capture the animal following resident complaints. Police Chief Merle Heffelman urged extra caution, noting the dog days and citing ordinance 41-1 which prohibits letting animals enter private yards, with a maximum $50 penalty.

Nursery Opens Jack and Jill Day Nursery

Mrs. Dean Brenneman will open a Jack and Jill Day Nursery at 303 North Street on Monday September 16. The center will enroll children aged two to six by the week day or hour from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Appraisal Questions Opened by Muskingum Chief Engineer

H L Hoffman chief engineer for the Muskingum Conservancy District will hold sessions at the Wayne County Clerk of Court on Tuesday September 3 from 1 30 p m to 4 30 p m and Wednesday September 4 from 9 a m to 12 00 p m to answer questions about the Chippewa Watershed appraisal roll. An extra Wooster day was added because the Court House was closed on August 20.

City Manager Charles Mann announced Patrolman Sam Strimlan’s resignation effective September 1 after a brief letter turning in the notice this week. Rittman seeks a replacement. applicants must be 21 to 35 years old, meet height and weight standards, and have a high school education.

Time And Temperature Clock To Be Installed By Rittman Bank

Rittman Savings Bank plans a time and temperature electronic sign on Main Street. Allan J Broadhurst notes the board chose the sign after seeing public demand for such a service. The 24 hour sign uses a self correcting motor for minute time accuracy and electronic temperature sensing to within one degree.
