Hoban High to Host Steve Banquet Guest Speaker

Hoban High School athletic director Paul Baldacci will speak at the Steve banquet on August 29 at 6 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Akron. About 190 players coaches managers and league officials expected. Ed Boss of Akron will perform a magic show and trophies and awards will be presented.

Citizens demand relief from Board of Public Affairs charges

Three Rittman citizens objected to alleged illegal demands by the Board of Public Affairs at a Tuesday night meeting. They questioned charges on water pipe and fittings and costs for relocating a fire plug. City officials argued costs reflected work around sewer lines and extensions tied to streets Mary and Home. The board, chaired by Edward Musser with members A. M. Wenger and Glen Haller, faces calls to cover extensions in the public right of way.

West Hill High School progress and delays noted

Construction foreman John Zuber says the old wing will be ready for school on September 4 with the chemistry lab and shop near completion though not all on day one. Boy Bitten by Collie Neighbor Dog

Herland Gene Reynolds five year old son of Mr and Mrs Harold Reynolds was bitten on the neck and face by a collie owned by Mr and Mrs Raymond Kitts at the Kitts home. The boy received eighteen stitches after being rushed to a local doctor and then to Wadsworth Municipal Hospital. He returned home that evening and is progressing well. A dog bite incident occurred when the child petted the dog as the two men stood nearby.

Death of John Csuhta at 84 after illness in Rittman

John Csuhta 84 died Tuesday evening at his home 44 North Seneca Street after a three month illness. Born in Austria Hungary he lived in Shamrock Pa before moving to Rittman twenty three years ago and worked twenty years for Ohio Boxboard Co. He leaves four daughters four sons twenty three grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Services Saturday 9 30 a m at St Ann Church Rittman with burial in Rittman Cemetery. Services held for Gary Johnson 14

Services were held at Murray Funeral Home in Creston for Gary Arnold Johnson 14 who died after a lingering illness at Wooster Community Hospital. A former Rittman resident, he had lived at the Children's Home since 1951 and would have entered eighth grade at Wayne Local this fall. He belonged to the Wooster Mennonite Church. Surviving are his father Frank Johnson of Cincinnati, mother Ruth Prosser of Ashland, three brothers Robert and Gene of Ashland and Jack of Sterling, and one sister Nancy Johnson of Wooster.

Rittman's Homecoming Sets Grand Prize Draw Saturday

Rittman prepares for its 1957 Homecoming with five days of festivities sponsored by the American Legion Lions Club and the volunteer fire department. Rides by St Sunney amusement Co include ferris wheel and merry go round with prizes nightly. The grand prize boat motor and trailer plus a Friday portable TV and a Saturday matinee cap the week. Robert Strock of the Wayne County Health Board said they receive many unsigned complaints from Rittman residents. He emphasized complaints will be investigated only if signed, with the sender's name kept confidential. Unsign Mary letters and unsigned telephone complaints will not be acted on until a signed form is provided.

A Florida matches book tied to the fire on stolen checks points to a heavy set man about 30 driving a black Ford seen near Millersburg after the Aug 12 theft between 5 and 6 PM. The existing auditorium will be enlarged to double facilities with plans to face the old frame structure in brick.
