Town Festival to Highlight Homecoming Parade Activities
Today through Saturday residents and visitors will enjoy a festival atmosphere with concessions games and daily prizes. The Lions Club the Dept and American Legion sponsor the homecoming event highlighted by a Kiddies Parade Saturday at 1 15 pm with rides at five cents from 2 to 5 pm. Children may enter pet and youth categories with prizes from 50 cents to four dollars. A 49 member committee coordinates plans led by E J LeGuillon Lions Earl Hummel Firemen and Garl Whitman Legion.

Short Session-Hot Night Council Meeting
City council held a brief 45 minute session on Monday with little business. They reported July collections of 560 dollars and authorized street department work from Industrial street to the swimming pool. An unsigned letter cited chimney odor from Semlar Products Co and a ditch along the B and O tracks. The council will study the issue further and approved changing three lots in the Fisher allotment. Railroads were contacted about noise and rough crossings discussed at the last meeting. All members attended except Wade Rohrer.

Smithville Boys Village Opens Open House Sunday
Smithville Smithville Village hosts an open house Sunday afternoon August 15 from 1 to 5:30 p.m. at the Smithville cottage grounds with tours led by Dr Warren A Guthrie Western Reserve University and other staff. Visitors may tour Knapp Summit and Stark Stauffer cottages plus the barn shop and farm facilities. An afternoon program on the farm house lawn includes music as well as remarks by Dr Guthrie and notes on forthcoming projects such as a trade remedial school for the boys with a Beta Sigma Phi wing and an Ohio AmVets tennis and basketball court. Jim Phillips and Dale Thompson return to lead recreation and group activities.

Citizens of Rittman need not fear a city water shortage as long as they use water wisely says A. Grant, chairman of the Board of Public Affairs. The board sees no sprinkling ban needed unless water use becomes excessive. A spare well is ready to be tapped if needed and work on the water tower continues with completion not expected for over six weeks.

Fire Extinguished At New Rittman Home
Rittman volunteers answered a Wednesday call to a new residence on West Sunset Drive extension. Richard Beery had extinguished the blaze with a fire extinguisher after workmen heated soil pipe joints with burning gasoline. Gas fumes spread along the basement floor but no injuries were reported.

David Leisy of Marshallville Ohio celebrates his 93rd birthday and credits eating well and sleeping plenty. A retired farmer and rural mail carrier from 1903 to 1929 he recalls using horse and buggy and later a car on unimproved roads. He and his wife share a golden anniversary and he lives in the same house since marriage with a large family gathering at Marshallville Park attendance included his 90 year old brother.

Mr and Mrs David Younker of Creston observed their 60th anniversary with a family dinner at their son’s home in Sterling. They married August 5, 1894 in Matchisonburg. Isa Fowble Younker is 79. David Younker 83. four sons Earl Ray Ira Harry, one daughter Pearl Leatherman. 14 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Other relatives attended. Rittman recreation department plans the Fourth Annual Mardi Gras with a Friday August 20 parade at 7 pm from N Main St recreation field to the square.
