Word was received that Mrs. Ethel Wilmot has been released from the nursing home and is at her daughter’s home in Florissant Missouri. Births and anniversaries are listed for local families along with upcoming celebrations and a note to file a new watershed flood plan.
Bill Bauer of Troop 405 recounts preparations and travel to the 7th National Boy Scout Jamboree at Farragut State Park Idaho in July 1969. He describes flights to Seattle, a Victoria trip, camp setup, events like archery swimming boating and cooking, trading at the post, meetings with dignitaries including astronaut Frank Boreman, and conservation messages. He notes selling Auto First Aid kits to fund the trip and offers remaining First Aid kits for sale to recover costs.
The Chippewa River watershed plans eight dams to curb flood erosion with most costs covered by federal and state grants. A Buck Creek dam is under construction on land donated by the owner. Public inspection of appraisal rolls begins Sept 3 in Rittman with hearings set Oct 23 and 24 in Wayne Medina and Summit counties.
Russell Frey, landlord of the Rittman Shopping Center, won an occupancy permit for two duplex housing units after appealing to the Common Pleas Court. He had moved the structures to make room for a bowling alley and argued remodeling costs of 2000 dollars per building were excessive. The city refused a variance and Frey contends he met building code requirements.
Darlene Eva White Sevill e fined 10 suspended July 30 for improper backing. Isaac Markley Wadsworth fined 20 for disregard railroad signal. Richard Terry Faber Rittman fined 15 for speeding. Delmer Collins Rittman fined 30 for speeding and 50 for fleeing officer. Ralph Coates New Castle Pa fined 25 plus costs.
The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at the American Legion Hall in Rittman from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday. Donors aged 18 to 65 may walk in, with minors needing parental consent. Local quota is 125 pints. Mrs. Richard Williams chairs. committee members and church helpers are listed. William S. Holt donated his 16th pint. he works at Bab cock and Wilcox in Barberton and hails from Portland Oregon.
At press time petitions to run for School Board Milton Township Trustees Mayor and City Council were filed. Deadline was Wednesday at the Board of Elections in Wooster. Forrer and Baker seek school board seats. Hall runs for mayor. Wright Imhoff Jordan Winkler and Nitz vie for council.
Rittman High School Booster Club will meet Monday at 8 pm in the JA Building. Plans for the cook-out before the first home football game on Friday Aug 26 and a candy sale will be discussed. Parents of athletic participants are urged to attend.
The Rotary Club and civic groups plan a three day Apple Festival in Rittman on October 2 3 and 4 to spotlight local apples. William Aloisi key organizer notes a midway contract with Gooding Amusement Company and wide community participation with aims for annual status. Local orchardists are informed and Sun Set Street block between Main and Seneca is set for rides and booths with street closure to be requested.
