Funeral Services For J. E. Benek Held Monday
Funeral services for John E. Benek 32 a prominent Rittman insurer were held Monday at the Milton Pres byterian Church for the man who died at Wadsworth hospital from gasoline burns suffered in a Strickland garage accident. Rev B S Hendrickson officiated. Burial was at New Concord. The Equitable Life Insurance Society and other colleagues served as honorary pallbearers. Benek left a wife and two young children and was survived by parents siblings and several relatives.

Lightning Hits Steiner Store Causing Smoke and Minor Fire Damage
A lightning bolt struck the north side of the D. C. Steiner store in Sterling around 6 pm, triggering smoke and slight fire damage. Firemen halted the blaze after 7:30 pm as doors were opened to vent smoke, with about 30 men removing charred stock. Several responders were overcome by smoke, and electric service disruptions delayed outside aid.
