Committee Moves On Five Fronts To Save Reservoir Site
A blue ribbon committee of Rittman and Wadsworth civic leaders met in Wadsworth to press for immediate action to preserve a River Styx valley site for a reservoir. The plan spans five projects from forming joint working committees to surveying water potential and securing letters of intent from the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District. The effort targets avoiding Route 94 through the site and aims for a 1,300 acre lake with 8 million gallons daily at an estimated cost of 3 million dollars.

Packaging Corp of America outlines growth plan gains
PCA reported growth moves aimed at boosting earnings and market strength in paperboard packaging. W D P Carey told the New York Society of Security Analysts the plan would add 14 million dollars to annual sales in year three and lift earnings to 165 per common share, assuming continued economic improvement. Second-year results through June 30, 1961 showed sales of 128.7 million and earnings of 4.09 million, or 97 cents per share, versus first-year sales of 138.3 million and 6.51 million in earnings. Carey noted the just-ended fiscal period bracketed the worst downturn for the industry since the 1930s and that conditions are improving with volume headed to new highs. Growth moves include Packaging Corp.’s 52 percent stake in Tennessee River Pulp and Paper’s 41 million dollar kraft linerboard mill, anticipated to open April 1961, potentially expanding annual capacity by 1,000,000 tons.
