Gov. Craig backs the railroads freight rate proposal while the Just Freight Rate Association opposes it. The association also favors a separate freight rates commission from the Corporation Commission. President Tate leads a strong public defense for the people.
After two days of examination the coroner jury ruled Witcher died by unknown hands. The finding closes without identifying a suspect or motive. No further details were released by authorities.
A local talent group presents Mr. Bob at the auditorium on September 30 to raise funds for the High Point Scholarship Association. Proceeds support girls needing industrial education and academic training via wholesome boarding school opportunities. The program includes Gibson picture living reproductions between acts. Washington Sept 7 A youth named Claude Tate of Forest City Rutherford County North Carolina told detectives he was forced to steal to avoid hunger He confessed to a string of thefts and forgeries The man previously claimed origins in Richmond and Atlanta but finally identified his home as Forest City He allegedly took a checkbook from Harrison Barker whom he rented a room from and forged Barker’s name on several checks

The Guilford grand jury reviews the auditor's books and lists property valuation at 26,456,940 with taxes totaling 244,398 and 9,054 polls. School expenditures for 1912 total 121,159.73 with a land balance of 5,444.39.
Alphonso Ellison placed a winning bid at the receiver's sale for the Columbia Furniture Co plant, totaling 16100 dollars. The bid is not expected to stand as a 10 percent bid has already been received, triggering another sale.
The High Point Lodge Benevolent Protective Order of Elks invites the public to attend the first reception at the Elks Home on Friday October 3 1913 from eight to twelve. The event marks the lodge's formal opening and welcomes attendees to celebrate the occasion.
Sunday a Gibson family reunion gathered at Mr. W. C. Gibsons Ward Street home marking the first gathering in 10 years. Four sons I C J E L R Gibson and daughter Mrs A M Vincannon attended with 12 grandchildren. a son and family from Arkansas also joined before departing Monday for Arkansas.

Burnett attend Raleigh freight rate meeting. A children chapter of the Confederacy to be organized locally. Roosevelt heads to South America on Oct 4.
Elizabeth City September 19 The Leopard's Spots by Mr Dixon and company opened the season with a standing room crowd. The play drew a big ovation and Mr Dixon received hearty applause as he spoke from the stage. It made a profound impression and is widely discussed. It will appear again October 25 at the auditorium.
