The Tuesday night meeting covered street improvement ordinances and $70,000 in bonds to be offered. Mayor Ragan secured signatures for reconstructing Main Street from the post office to Beeson Hardware Co, enabling paving with 2,516 feet on both sides. The city approved advertising and costs, with further signatures from property owners.
The four month old son of Chief McGhee died after illness at home on Carrick avenue with funeral by Dr. G T Rowe. AJAMIA Smith died at 607 East Green street. services were led by Rev C P Coble with interment at Oakwood. Mrs C L Compson and Mrs Maria Adams noted death and services planned. Rhetta Stout died at 201 Tate street aged 32. services at Mt Vernon church. Mrs Denson visiting Fort Niagara to see Capt Denson. Baraca class at Wesley Memorial to hold social Sept 14th.
Prizes offered for Kirmess Week September 26 to 29 as High Point gears for a four day celebration. Speakers attend Farmers Day Patriots Day and Educational Day with Metropolitan Shows, stunts, dancing, and daily events. Exhibits due September 24 with a long list of prize categories for crops, foods, crafts, and art.

A note condemns German airmen dropping poisoned candy over Northern France, calling it a vile act contrary to wells and hospitals.
The murder of Mrs. Maude A. King, a wealthy Chicago woman, at Concord on August 29 is the subject of a thorough investigation. Mrs King's mother accuses Gaston B. Means of Concord of being responsible for her daughter's death.
A large public protest in Buenos Aires denounces German trickery as a German minister uses Swedish legislation to send messages against Germany. Rioting occurred with German buildings stoned and crowds expressing strong disapproval.
The Exemption Board is set today to select the next 40 percent from High Point to form the new army. Efforts to include names in this issue were unsuccessful.
