Reporter visits a tent on Hamilton street to observe the Unknown Tongue religious gathering. Described are loud demos, convulsions, and Holy Ghost claims. arrests for nuisance noted in other towns. Also lists a Jacksonville Florida excursion train special via Southern Railway and obituary of Mrs. Fannie Thomas.
A collage of photographs shows the big celebration with crowd scenes around an aeroplane, Kaminski preparing to fly, and the aircraft taking off. Other features promote local ads from Rock Hill Buggy Co and gun makers, plus notes on community events, new businesses, a dog scare, and civic notices from High Point.
Three blue Dutch Dell Chinaware sets, 39 pieces each, retailing eight to ten dollars a set, offered at 400 dollars per set. Sets acquired wholesale, freight included, with two sets previously priced higher. First come, first served. only three sets left, on display at The Review office.
A city cleanup has been ordered by Erat Tate and will begin with a planned start at a date to be announced. W. P. Pickett is improving his residence on North Main Street as part of the period of local works.
The Big Pony Contest nears closure with eighteen days left as Sept 16 votes are issued at one and a half per cent, no further bonuses, and a final judges’ tally on Sept 30. The prize includes a pony harness and trap worth $350, with Woodrow the pony arriving from Greenfield, Ohio.
The Royal Theater screens Higher Justice to standing ovations with a half dollar admission, while manager Ellison lines up nightly features. City plans big water and fire department upgrades, including a 3,000,000 gallon storage reservoir and a new fire station at Hamilton and Commerce. Grand Rapids Wood Finishing rep LeVore to establish southern headquarters. RC Lindsay returns from camp on the Hudson. Drayman Books of Dunbar Grocery bitten by a mad dog and treated in Raleigh.
Secretary Daniels is writing a biography of President Wilson in his spare time from directing the U S navy. The manuscript is nearly completed and promises an intimate life history of the President.
Mayor Fred N. Tate receives a high honor from Hon Logan Waller Page to name three delegates for the American Road Congress sessions in Detroit, Sept. 29 week. Twenty eight organizations join under the American Highway Association and the American Automobile Association as state highway officials gather to discuss national road improvement policy.
Randleman graded schools opened yesterday with 375 pupils enrolled. Superintendent N F Farlow returns to lead with assistants Miss Jennie Bulla Miss Cordia Wall Miss Cora Ferebee Miss Ellen Barker Miss Maud Fox and Miss Jessie Woolen. The outlook for a banner year is bright.
Delos E. Hammer closes a deal for a valuable gold mine in Yadkin County. The Thaw case takes a turn as he is moved along the Vermont line and then arrested again by the county sheriff, with predictions of continued confinement at Mattewan Asylum. Southern Car Co ships baggage and passenger cars to Asheville East Tennessee railroad, plus four double truck motor cars to Charlotte and two to Winston. The fair features a new advertisement on page eight.
Southern Railway announces exceptionally low round trip fares from all points to Knoxville Tennessee for the National Conservation Exposition running September 1 to November 1 1913. Tickets sold daily through November 1 with final limit ten days from sale extendable to November 3 for a $1 deposit. Tuesday and Thursday specials offer further reductions good in coaches only with return limits of five or seven days depending on point distance.
