High Point to form a housing corporation with a capital of about 250000 to erect two hundred rental homes. Prominent businessmen pledge 7000 each. site selection pending after merit review. Committee led by Terry to organize, aiming to ease severe housing shortages and attract new residents.

Chas Lemons fined five dollars and costs for speeding. Bernard Howardson fined twenty five dollars and costs for throwing eggs during the strike lockout. Ernest Ridge fined ten dollars for disorderly conduct. Operating an auto while intoxicated resulted in a fine and license revocation. CN Cummings fined ten dollars and costs with license revoked for speeding. Zeke Gurley Harry Roach and Chas Coble paid half the costs for unsanitary closets. Ed Hodgin fined ten dollars and costs for a Sunday disorderly conduct.
Mrs. Thomas W. Bickett wife of the governor spoke Wednesday night at St Marys Episcopal Church in support of a nationwide Episcopal Church campaign. Rev I W Hughes of Henderson also spoke endorsing the campaign and recalled his Liberty loan appeals. He is a familiar figure to traveling men and active in T P A work statewide. Mrs Bickett is noted for church and civic leadership in North Carolina.
Nesby Johnson appeared before Judge Kirkman on two charges. He was found not guilty of assaulting his wife Emma Johnson and she was ordered to pay costs for the warrant. Johnson was let off with costs on the speeding charge, and Emma admitted a simple hand strike. Dewey Williams pleaded guilty to speeding and paid costs. The judge said speeders will be freed on costs this week but may face fines next week.
Judge Kirkman in municipal court ordered J C F Brien's minstrel show to pay court costs and compensate farmer R F Stone with 15 for alleged damage to his horse and wagon after a parade of the minstrels spooked the horse. Stone signalled the truck to stop. the driver did not heed and continued, endangering Stone until Dave Ruffin assisted. J D Koontz, city street superintendent, reports a grafted pear tree from a nursery yielding a remarkably large fruit.

Mrs Flora Spaugh fined 850 for bearing false witness against Mrs Mattie Harcy of Thom asville O S Harville ordered to pay 50 monthly support to his wife. Tom Lowe colored given six months road sentence for appropriating a suit of clothes from his gal.
Matthew Hale president of the South Atlantic Maritime association and Hugh MacRae of Wilmington toured North Carolina cities to push forming a southern ports export league. They note rail shipping to Wilmington saves time and money for Cuba and South America bound goods with 11 ships already in operation. The group covers North and South Carolina Georgia and Florida and aims to include High Point Greensboro Winston Salem and Charlotte.
Sunday brought a rally day at the four Baptists and collections yielded a neat sum. A Ford touring car was stolen at the Thomiasville carnival grounds Thursday night and found the next day in nearby woods. a $50 reward was offered. President Wilson suffered a nervous breakdown on a League of Nations speaking tour and returned home four days early. Christmas shopping urged with deposits at Stamey’s Jewelry. Thomas Dodameade moved to Nashville and joined Knoffe & Bros. Studios in portrait work. Mr. and Mrs. J L Kirkman and son Lois traveled to Newport News to visit their daughter Mrs. Ivy Smith, with Mrs. Kirkman staying two months. Next stop Central Carolina Fair in Greensboro October 15–18. High Point beat Spencer in a Saturday game, evening up after Spencer won the first game. Paul Hoffman attended the 30th division reunion in Greenville. Marriages noted: Maude Smith to Littleton Thompson in Greensboro, and Dora Gurley to Paul B. Gibson in Greensboro. John W. Walker plans to relocate back here after two years in Philadelphia. Christmas gifts urged now with deposits at Stamey’s. Oxford Orphanage singing class gave a Monday night concert. Miss Frances Hoffman left for Greenville for the 30th division reunion. Miss Ruth Stamey left for Seattle with a Great Northern Pacific railroad job. Odd Fellows smoker held. W A Bass and Edgar Hatcher Jr. left for the New York market. Dee Welborn and Chas Amos at New York markets.
Publicity director T W Chambliss announces a three day tour by Rev George W Truett of Texas, described as a premier Southern preacher. Stops include Fayetteville Mongley Raleigh Durham Greensboro Charlotte with dates October 6 to 8 and daily event times. Truett travels from South Carolina to North Carolina and onward to Texas.
Jordon Skeen, arrested Wednesday night, was tried in municipal court Friday and acquitted of possession of liquor for sale. Officers found three pints in his car and a gallon jug at J W Paschall’s shoe shop, which Paschall and Skeen denied owning. The judge dismissed the case and returned the two pints to Skeen.

California and Los Angeles are highlighted for enthusiastic support. Hiram Johnson, former California governor and U S senator, challenges the League and warns against loss of sovereignty and entanglement with Europe.

In Omaha on September 29 Mayor E. F. Smith was badly injured when a mob tried to lynch him after he opposed a racial attack. The courthouse burned, a man was killed, and about 40 others wounded as federal troops arrived to restore order. The mob then killed William Brown, a Black man, with brutal violence. The fire and mob actions left the courthouse and jail in ruins, with over 1.5 million dollars in property damage.
The United States Railroad Administration announces adjusted train times effective Sunday August 24 1919. Train 108 departs Greensboro at 7 25 A M arriving Goldsboro at 12 40 P M. Train 144 departs Greensboro at 9 20 A M arriving Goldsboro at 2 40 P M. No changes to trains 22 and 112 eastbound.
A High Point man, W. T Pierce of 203 Thomlinson St, credits Doan's Kidney Pills with easing back pain and regulating kidney function after ongoing cold exposure.
