The 85th annual session of the North Carolina Baptist Convention convenes in Charlotte at the First Baptist Church on December 7. Miss Zung a Chinese student at Greensboro College for Women with Mrs. Frank Siler and Miss Anise Siler attended Wesley Memorial Church Sunday evening to support missionary work. Reverend Richard T. Vann spoke at First Baptist Church and Green Street Church. Large crowds heard the noted Baptist divine. The Baraca Philathea unions of Guilford county met at Centenary Methodist in Greensboro with 117 classes in the county. Julius C. Smith of High Point addressed the convention. A Nazareth Orphan's Home class concert from Crescent was held at the First Reformed Church.

South Africa Firm Buys 12000 Dollar Chair Order

A Cape Town company Sterber and Co. ordered chairs worth about 12000 dollars from North Carolina High Point suppliers. S L Davis of the Southern Chair Company arranged the deal after a quick visit, with delivery expected by February 1 and hints of further orders. Thomasville also landed a good order and total North Carolina chair spend was around 500000 dollars.

Sudden Train Crash Kills Miss Canup Near Salisbury

Miss Sallie Canup died instantly in a collision with train No. 46 while crossing a railroad near Salisbury. Mrs. W Henry Canup was fatally injured. The victim, Maggie Julian before marriage, had recently wed and was related to Rev Luther Canup of New York.

Dr. G. W. Holmes of Burlington was elected president of the M. P. Conference yesterday by a slim margin over Dr. A. G. Dixon of this city. The editor notes Dixon might have won with stronger support from his friends.

The farmers of Guilford county will meet in Greensboro on Saturday at 10 30 a m for a session to discuss the future of farm demonstration programs and plans.

Greensboro native killed in Hopewell shooting

Thomas Paschal of Greensboro was shot and killed early Monday morning in a restaurant room in Hopewell Virginia by Carl Pike, another Greensboro native. Authorities report no motive beyond presumed insanity, with relatives confirming the incident.

Auto Accident Near Star Involves City Residents

In an incident last week near Star Newt Allen and Chas C Muse of this city and a Seagrove gentleman were overturned in Allen's car which was badly wrecked. Allen is improving Muse sustained minor injuries and the Seagrove man suffered the worst injuries but is expected to recover. The car skidded in sand and turned turtle before Allen could right it.

Final Day’s Run Marks 259 Mile Reliability Test

Aged black educator Booker T. Washington died Sunday from arteriosclerosis. The obituary recalls his lifelong work advancing the race through education and notes one noted public misstep when he accepted a White House dinner invitation years ago.
