Emmanual Lutheran Church on North Main street celebrated cornerstone ceremonies with morning and afternoon services and a large open air gathering. Rev J Morgan delivered a sermon on Christ as the church’s foundation, Clarence Schultheiss sang, and two adults joined the congregation. The 375 seat Gothic building, designed by Harry Barton, will feature a full basement Sunday school space, terra cotta tile interiors, and Mount Airy granite exterior. The project, expected to complete soon, faced a January opening variance.

Negro Driver Charged with Assault in Norfolk
Charlie Jones a city auto driver was arrested last night around 10 pm on charges of attempting a criminal assault on Lillian Marshall a white resident of Norfolk Virginia. Police say the alleged assault occurred between 9 30 and 10 pm while Jones was intoxicated and he took Marshall to a negro house before returning to her hotel.

Red Cross Visiting Nurse Reports October Duties
Miss Anna Walker of the High Point home service station nursed 28 new patients in the city during September. She logged 51 metropolitan visits 147 daily visits and 35 unre corded visits totaling 233 visits in the first full month. She aided many families by alerting Red Cross workers to cases and noted variations in July and August activity.

Going After Good Roads in North Carolina
High Point chamber of commerce secretary S. R. Bivins received a letter from Miss H. M. Berry of the North Carolina Good Roads Association urging him to recruit 25 High Point voters to sign petitions endorsing an adequate transportation system. Similar petitions are being sent across the state to compile 250 000 voter names to push legislative action for better roads. Bivins agreed to act promptly and cooperate fully with the effort.

Farewell Sermon for Williams Pastor of South Main Street Church
