Ilotte July 24 Sam Lackey of Hillsboro jail charged with extortion of Maggie Mize a Greenville County girl is wanted in South Carolina for white slavery. Henry Thomas a Lexington agent reports the first victim a 16 year old girl from Lexington was lured to Greenville then woods near there and tied to a tree. The second girl was found three weeks ago unable to talk for days after her ordeal. A witness against Lackey is held in Greenville. Agent Handy at Raleigh coordinated with Hillsboro authorities to capture Lackey.

Ty Mary A. Clodfelter reports two year old son of Mr and Mrs John Turner residing five miles west of here was scalded in a tub of hot water last Saturday. Doctor believes child may survive if no other complications arise. Dr and Mrs Phillips visited Wednesday to see the Turners. The Indicter family plans a September move to Wallburg and M Call family will relocate to Lexington in early August.

Pioneer resident J C Welch died last week at his home after a long illness. He left substantial property and was a well known member of the community. He served as caudeirman and remained active in city affairs until illness. Five children and a widow survive. Funeral services were held at the First M P Church conducted by Rev. Geo R Brown.

Man Injured When Bicycle Collides With Car
Simeon Hucks of Mechanicsville was seriously injured when his bicycle was struck by a Ford sedan at the corner of North Main and West Washington streets. He suffered three fractured ribs and minor bruises, and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

John F. Wright, 59, father of J. N. Wright of High Point, died in a Concord hospital Friday night at 8:30 after an appendectomy. He lived near Kannapolis and was brought to Concord for the operation. Survived by widow and five sons: J. N. Wright of High Point, D. C. Wright of Greensboro, J. N. Wright of Reidsville, Harry Wright of Mooresville, and G. W. Wright of Landis. Funeral at Lutheran Church of China Grove Sunday at 11 a.m.

Greensboro Methodist district conference met in Jamestown for its annual session. The vote on Nebula Brittain’s license to preach drew 14 against and one abstention. Brittain claimed conscientious objector status. Licenses to preach were granted to J. A. Howell and F. D. Brady. Eight lay delegates were elected after five ballots to attend the Salisbury conference set for October 20, with eight more named. Recommendations for admission on trial were given to Sharpe, Howell, and Kennedy. A vote of thanks praised F N Tate for securing 1,876 conference memberships and insurance for families of deceased preachers, now worth over 2,500 annually.

Plane crash injures Harold Kearns in Asheboro
A Hazel afternoon crash over Sun Set avenue left Harold Kearns, 22, of Farmer, with a severe leg fracture likely amputation and multiple teeth knocked out. Owner Manese Willard of High Point suffered minor injuries as both occupants were hospitalized in High Point. Engine failure caused the fall and wreck near a tree.

Mrs Akers Dead In Chattanooga After Brief Illness
Miss Kathryn Caffey Akers died in a Chattanooga hospital after a brief illness from acute liver trouble. Woman slain by Italian as High Point case unfolds
Martha Lathan twenty two was stabbed to death in her father’s Ward street home. Italian Frank Peeter, a week guest, confessed to the police after being arrested near Jamestown. He says jealousy over another man sparked the slaying and that he killed her after threats were made. The coroner’s jury ruled death by Peeter with no motive specified. Trial set for September 20 as further statements surface.
