Elijah Moffitt Dies in Asheboro Succumbing to Tuberculosis
Elijah Moffitt a prominent Asheboro attorney died in the local hospital from tuberculosis of the glands near the kidneys. He was a son of former Sheriff Moffitt and had recently sought a Baltimore specialist who offered little hope. His remains were taken to Asheboro for interment. A Pentecostal camp meeting opens August 30 on South Hamilton Street with public invitation.

In Charlotte a coroner's jury finds Joe McNeely died by pistol shot wounds inflicted by a mob of about thirty five. McNeely was dragged from the colored hospital and shot, his body riddled with bullets. A $1,000 reward was offered for each mob member. The grand jury is urged to indict. sale of guns halted. Police say further race clashes unlikely as officers increase vigilance. McNeely, drunk on cocaine, shot Policeman Wilson on Friday. Wilson shot McNeely in self defense. Wilson, hospitalized, is thought to recover.
