Books & Basketball blends reading with hoops in Red Hook
In Coffey Park, the Books & Basketball program runs each summer since 2002 as part of Red Hook Rise. It uses basketball to motivate reading with 10 teams and reading sessions during games, plus fitness drills, referee rules, and college/job prep, drawing 40 signups so far with 150 last year. The effort, led by Hall and supported by Webb and Robinson, aims to keep kids engaged, improve literacy, and guide their futures.
