Red Hook Parish Fusion Tells Italian Catholic History
The two historic parishes Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary and St. Stephen's merged in 1941 due to the Brooklyn Queens Expressway, ending a century of Italian community life in Red Hook. St. Stephen's, designed by Patrick C. Keely and finished in 1875, preserves statues and relics moved from the demolished Sacred Hearts church.
