Justice Center trials peacemaking approach in Brooklyn
A Conover Street youth faces destruction of property and other charges after a tire slashing incident. At arraignment Judge Calabrese offers an alternative peacemaking program at the Red Hook Community Justice Center that includes a community circle with the offender, victim, family, and neighbors to foster healing over months. The initiative, supported by CCI and the Bureau of Justice Assistance, aims to replace some punitive actions with restorative dialogue in Brooklyn precincts 76th 78th and 72nd.
