Red Hook Farms grows community through youth programs
Destiny Estiny Mirabel, a longtime Red Hook Farms worker, reflects on joining through the Summer Youth Employment program in 2017. The farm runs CSA produce boxes, a weekly Saturday stand, and a Youth Farmer Program with about 22 apprentices. Produce, eggs, and cheese join a sliding scale CSA, while NYCHA residents can volunteer or swap scraps for vegetables. The two sites, Columbia Street Farm and Walcott Street Farm, educate visitors and offer space to linger and learn in a city setting.
