Brooklyn Parks and Lit Crawl Highlight May Weekends
Thousands joined It's My Park Day across Brooklyn neighborhoods with volunteers cleaning Dog Run at DiMattina Park, weeded beds at Red Hook Recreation Center, and youth repainting fences. A two weekend stretch showcased 13 literary events at 13 venues plus Red Hook and Carroll Gardens walking tours. Local galleries opened at 351 Van Brunt Street with Lightness Being exhibit and Kentler Drawing Space held a fundraising auction. Memorial Day Barbecue at Van Brunt Street VFW featured Mexican naval officers paying respects as attendees relaxed after a hot day.
