Red Hook Art Project mentors youths in diverse arts
In 2006 Deirdre Swords and Ta-Shawn Davis founded RHAP in Coffey Park. The free program offers drawing painting sculpture film making and music to Red Hook youths with two age groups 10 13 and 14 17. The July 12 exhibit at Red Hook Initiative showcased student art and student produced films. Hercules sculpture by Ta-Shawn Davis won 80 dollars. Mentors and donors sought to sustain the program and Swords later received the Robert Acito Award for Youth Involvement.
