Demolition, Permits Trigger Stop Work Orders on Columbia Street
Columbia Street Development bought 251 255 Columbia Street from Sokol Brothers Furniture and plans a seven story condo with thirteen units. City issued a stop work order June 25 for lack of permits, partially rescinded July 3 for compaction grouting, then reimposed July 10 with a $5 000 fine after work with an excavator continued. Elsey said permits cover related work and will appeal. Also Brooklyn Community Foundation grants totaling nearly $2.3 million include Red Hook programs and PS 15 after school funding.
