Red Hook Streetcar Idea Abandoned After Cost Outlook
The April 2011 DOT Streetcar Feasibility Study found a $176 million build and $6.2–7.2 million annual upkeep if a trolley linked Red Hook to Downtown Brooklyn. Two-way tracks on narrow Van Brunt and Columbia Streets were deemed impractical, and ridership gains were modest. Near term fixes were proposed including enhanced B61 service, Hamilton Avenue pedestrian upgrades, and a new Mill Street Hamilton Avenue intersection.
