Vigil at Columbia Street flagpole honors fallen as city holds protests
Local leaders gathered December 12 for a community vigil outside 450 Columbia Street to remember those lost to police violence. Attendees lit candles, heard messages of respect, and heard from Catherine McBride of the Red Hook Initiative. Police briefly illuminated the area with gasoline powered flood lamps, then left. Visitation Church parishioners joined a Guadalupe celebration parade with a band and a speech by Father Claudio. The crowd dispersed after speakers, with some moving to the Columbia Street tree lighting and others to an RHI seminar on police interactions. Participants included Sister Rosanna and Pete Morales among others.
