Executives of seven Pulaski hosiery firms voiced strong support for The Pulaski News-Worker this week. Leaders from Virginia Maid Waliner Acme Pauwhatting Knitting Virginia Marc nd Wallner and Jefferson mills praised the paper as a useful, permanent public service for employees and the Pulaski community.
Pulaski mayor E W Calfee extends congratulations to Charles E Dyer on launching the Pulaski News-Worker aimed at hosiery employees. He notes mills are a key local asset contributing to civic life, urging support for the new publication. December 21, 1939.
The Dobson committee of Pulaski News-Worker met twice to plan employee participation and coverage in the paper. Chairmen Mrs. Pearl Smith and Miss Hallie Elkins, with members from several plant departments, will supply weekly items and advise on paper content for workers at Dobson mills.
The Jefferson Mills Credit Union helps employees with Christmas spending by saving weekly from their checks into accounts. Members are confident that there is still a Santa Claus as they plan for holiday shopping and savings.
Workers of the Virginia Maid at Monticello club gather for their annual Christmas party with a program including a Pulaski choral club carol, a Christmas talk, a pageant, and musical numbers. Speeches by Marzelle Shrader and Garnett Moore precede gift presentations and a Christmas address by Thomas Wallner.
An employee association representing four mills in Virginia and Dobson joins The Pulaski News-Worker as the official weekly publication. Committees from Virginia Maid Wallner Acme Dye and Jefferson mills will submit weekly news items and advise on coverage to keep workers connected locally.
