Public notice states teachers will attend institute on Monday Tuesday and Wednesday next week causing Potter school to open Thursday September Yotn LYZv.
Rev L V Slocumb has been asked by the church board and laity to return to Potter for another year and is willing to do so. The annual conference at Hastings will decide. He has strengthened the church and community, earned praise, and the board voted a salary increase if he is returned.
The concrete base for a 180 horsepower Fairbanks Morse unit is being prepared this week. The nine foot deep foundation will be wide and long, needing substantial cement. Old slabs are reused to reduce new concrete. It must dry twenty one days before engine placement. Arnell supervises the contractor.
Qualified voters in School District No 9 will vote Saturday afternoon on validating a prior $17,500 bond election to finance an addition to the schoolhouse. The process corrects earlier publication errors and confirms bonds already decided, not new bonds.
A local committee announced a dance in Potter for Saturday evening September 4. Grabills orchestra will provide the music for the event.
The second annual Union Pacific system athletic meet will be held at Frontier Park, Cheyenne. More than 400 contestants expected with events in field and track, rifle shooting, tennis, horseshoe pitching, trap shooting, golf, swimming, diving, boxing, wrestling, and a double-header baseball game each day. Roland Locke aims to lower the 300 yard dash world record and will compete daily.
School will begin Thursday morning September 9th after teachers attend the county institute in Sidney. Full credit will be given for the full week despite two school days. Enrollment is expected to rise and construction on a new school addition has started. The Knowledge Factory Notes may be published again in the Review during the term.
Cheyenne county fair board met August 14 1926 to set committees for the September 30 October 2 fair. Entertainment Concessions Finance Publicity Music Grounds Exhibits Crops Livestock Women's Dept and Class Superintendents were named led by L T Johnson and J M Nelson. The board approved concessions progress and a resolution to consolidate amusements, inviting citizen support and entry of owner exhibits to the county fair.
The young Bear Cats have a double schedule for Sunday on the local field. They meet Dalton at 2:00 p.m. and Fairview immediately following the Dalton game. Two good games are looked for. The Lincoln Daily Star reprints a crop report praising Cheyenne and Kimball counties in western Nebraska. Cheyenne harvested 4,000,000 bushels of wheat and Kimball 3,000,000, selling at about 1.20 a bushel, netting 4.8 and 3.6 million dollars respectively. The note highlights corn prospects, cattle, hogs, dairy, poultry, and potatoes, estimating overall regional agricultural wealth at 18 to 20 million in 1926.
In the Sidney election held last Tuesday the public light plant was rejected for sale to Stone & Webster of Boston by about two to one. The firm had planned to extend lines through Potter and surrounding towns, including Dix Kimball Bushnell and Pine Bluffs, and possibly into Cheyenne. The defeat in Sidney casts doubt on future expansion plans and their effect on western towns.
An Otto Lorenz sale attracted an exceptionally large crowd from distances of thirty to forty miles, with items selling well and the sale praised for its execution. Col. Joseph Schwartz led the sale, and Lorenz and family plan to move by overland to Hubbard, Iowa, with well wishes from The Review.
In Redington tournament the Bear Cats beat Northport 3 1 in a fast game with Herman Fricke allowing only two hits. Fricke also pitched Sunday, then relieved by Gene Kaune and Chas Aulis as Redington won 6 0. Northport edged Redington 6 5 in a finale decided by a flip. Pleasant View and Bayard exited before finals. Karl Fricke managed the locals with Floyd Himmelright as captain.
